Well I been making Kaiser models for a long long time now.... The first one was built sometime in early 1980s... guess 1982 or 83.  Since then have seen maly Kaisers in my hangar and yes have broken nearly everyone of them.... the laterst one in the Hangar is Mk II and am building the Mk I.  I still have its plan with me which as old as the first model I made.
Here is my last Kaiser MK II on the airfield....  with me setting up my remote to do the first flight.  It flies really well....

Here are a few pictures of the old plan for the Mk I which I am making now.... though this model is a Balsa wood construction i am going to make it with commercially available foam or thermocol picked up from refregerator sellers (one can get 8-10mm medium density thermocol from these shops - free of cost).....

Though I will make it for a 4 channel rc set.... complete with Throttle, Rudder, Elevator and Alierons...

The old Kaiser pics are nice. They remind us of the good times we've had.

Now you have to start one more thread Grin
"RCI 6th Sweepstakes: 1st entry: Kaiser Mk1"
And put a link to it in the main Sweepstakes thread.
It was only after seeing how Rai saheb has posted did i really understand what is to be done.

Thanks a lot KK Sir......
My only fear is that I might not be as fast in building it as I should be... Presently been running around the local Hospital for some reasons..... Lets see how much time I can spare into this....

OK here are the first few pictures of the Model in making.....

The first picture is that of the template taken from the plan on a butter paper for marking the thermocol sheet..... the nest pictures show the thermocol sheet marked appropriately and cut by a surgical knife........

The attached pictures show clearly that it is not a HD thermocol but close to a commercially available one.  I had picted them up from the Refregerator seller close to my house.... The main issue now is to strength this thermocol to take the load of a model which will fly with a motor equivalent to a .20 Cu In glow plug and do most aerobatics.....  One can clearly see the large size thermocol cells....

Here are a couple of pictures of the cut fuselage.

This is the exactly same thermocol I use.... Very stiff if covered in tape "properly" or glassed with epoxy resin and chiffon cloth.

Thanks for reminding me Ashok..... and yes Topalle this foam gets stiff as you said it right with proper stiffining.  BUT i use paper to stiffen it and also keep it light... anything from kite paper or butter paper can be used to stiffen it.... I will show the method when the time comes.....

Got some time during thw weekend and so pushed through the construction of the fuselage.... here are some pictures of the Tail plane and the Fin being prepared.....

The pictures show the state of the fuselage after covering it with butter paper and thinned fevicol.... and the Fin completed with nylon cloth hinges in place.  The last picture if of the tailplane and the elevator ready....

As all my models are made of scrap blasa wood at Sharmas which I collect often to help me build my wood parts and this one from foam collected from verious places like packing foam for Fridges and Air Conditioners and yes Gauravag's workshop.  I will though be using commercially available thermocol for my wing as though it is not as stiff as required, but it is much lighter then HD foam.  The butter paper covering and paint also do not increase the weight to than an extent to be heavier then a HD foam wing with paint and all...

Fuselage nearing completion.... or rather one step closer to completion..... The verticle and horizantal stabilisers in place and the Fin stake added in the last picture.....

Have used the 5 minute epoxy to fix the two stablisers to the fuselage......

Soon the final Nose cover and the Undercarriage will be added.....

Will start my construction of the wing today after my visit to Gauravag to cut my wings as needed..... then fixing the spars and the stiffner, center joint, Fiber Glass cloth hard centre portion, inatalling the Alierons and covering the wing with Butter paper will be left.

Last of the things will be painting my model with Fevicryl colours.....  If someone can suggest me a good design which can be painted on my model i will be highly obliged.

Thanks a lot Sanjay Sir..... I try to keep the cost of my models below Rs 500 which includes the fevicol and the paint.  Yes for the wheels and the undercarriage I have to add extra...... PLUS the enectronics.....

Some of the wing under preparation... Must thank Mr Gaurav Agarwal... aka Gauravag for spending the last sunday cutting a few wings for me on his CNC hot wire machine...... the wings have come out very good..... and has saved me at least 2 days of sanding effort.

Well..... RC modelling is not for cheap items of very low budget stuff.... As I am sufficiently experienced I am able to keep the cost of my model down.  But I do not compromise with the Motor or the Battery or the ESC.  I am going to be using a 3-4 cell lipo of 2700 - 3000 mAh on this with a Turnigy 3536 motor or the OS motor I have.... will use a 60 Amp ESC.

Making a model you must decide your budget first..... then go for a suitable RC Set if you wish to enter RC Flying... The the size of model within the budget and the electricals for it to fit the budget..... If I know your budget it will be of some help.

Some more pictures of the model under construction (Kaiser Mk I) over the week....

Well that box on the fiselage is to put weight on the piece of wood being pasted on the top of the fuselage.... The second picture shoes the control links for Tail surfaces in place.... The third picture shows the space made in the tail section of the fuselage for fixing the servos inside.... (EMax 11 Gm Metal Gears) and the last one shoes the fuselage with the wings (yet to be painted) placed before it.

a few more pictures.....

The Aileron connections are still to be given in the first two pictures.  The last picture is..... Model - Kaiser Mk I.  Ready and hung on the wall for an appropriate time to fly.  Even tomorrow is expected to be heavy rains..... So let's see when.
The final All Up Weight is 1.3 Kgs.  The model structure made of commercial thermocol has been covered with Butter Paper and then painted using Fevicryl colours.  The the wing surfaces, after the paint job has been covered with transparent masking tape..... normal 2 inch wide tape available in the market.

Yes it is the drawling of the Earlier Kaiser which was once upon a time their one of their first few RC models... actually a 3 channel model but I have always flown it as a 4 channel one.  The pictures of the plans put in the first post show it clearly.... This plans dated back to 1982 or 1983 when I first made the model.  I have one copy of it with me.  Guess that is the last surviving one as Sharma's have shifted to the Kaiser Mk II for their production for some time.

Thanks for appreciating the build.... well it is also supposed to give an insight to the budding aeromodellers to take some cues and incorporate them into their model building.  Hope they do it.

Well the landing gear of this model is made out of 2.5 mm Duralium Allow sheet i.e. the sheet used to make aircraft skins. I managed some of it somehow.  If your plan for Kaiser Mk II is torn --- just put it upside down on a table and put tape to join the plan.  My old plan has over a dozen pieces of tape stuck to it.

Hey did u buy it from the Sharma's or somewhere else.  You mar try talking to Mr Vivek SHarma and he might send you another plan of Kaiser Mk II.  OR else just go to the Air Wing NCC and ask their Aeromodelling instructor if he has a spare plan of that model.  Being in Chandigarh you should not have any problems.
If you wish to know anything you are welcome...

Flew my Kaiser today....... it has small issues of setting up the controls to make it fly balanced with no trim.... presently its a slight roll to the left and pitch down.... so the trim setting are slight offset to the right Aileron and nearly full pitch down on the elevator.  Flew twice and did a few aeros..... will trim it today on the work table and fly again maybe in the evening or tomorrow morning and post its videos.

Well Rakshit Sharma...... The Sharma Models makes the Kaiser..... but this is the old Kaiser i.e. the Mk I.  You may see my initial posts in the forum to know more and see the pictures of the plan which is a blue print and has been joined at many places.  This plan dates back to sometime in 1981 - 82 when I first made this model.  The present model has some small differences from this one.  The original model is a 3-4 channel Rc model.

To all my friends "HAPPY LANDINGS"....

Wow Shobhit.... The plane is superb apart from some teething problems.. Once you have ironed the creases out, I am sure this will be another one you will make loads of versions off......

How about making a low wing version of this Kaiser... you may even be able to sell the rights to Sharma Model, they will love it Smiley

Well b4ggu..... good words..... ok I have been maiking Kaiser since I was in my class 10th sometime in the 1983-84...... have flown them in 3 channel versions and 4 channels.... This is not the first kaiser but may be the nth one I have made.. for the low winger i.e. Kaiser Km II... I have flown it plenty and have it in my Hangar...  As far as the Sharma's go..... its their model and so is the Kaiser Mk II...  They been a great support to me since the early 80's and have learnded from them a lot... please read the footnote on my post...

The Sharma's love their models and so do I....... I am a big fan of theirs and their other products.

Nice and smooth now.
But how come it is so fast?
High wing loading?
Or just full throttle?
Great runway. Bamrauli?

Well its not a 3000 KV motor... just the OS 1100kv motor running on a 3 cell.... Iyer Sir..... as i told u earlier.. I prefer my planes slightly faster... This one has a semi symmetrical aerofoil instead of the standard Clark Y.  So some extra speed in needed to remove the possibility of tip stall.....
bye the way was planning to use a 4 cell nest flying day.... would that be a scary amount of power....??
Thanks Saurabh...

Thank you very much.... all the three very senior and reputed members of this forum....

OK.. its a 3015 1000 KV motor from OS.... brought from Sharma's sometime back but used for the first time.  I am using an 11x6 prop on it with a 60 Amp ESC........ I was also surprised at the motor noise..... but maybe its the OS way of saying that the power is good.
