Title: Modified Phantom 210 Super, with Brushless setup.
Post by: ashJR7202 on August 10, 2010, 01:22:09 PM
HI guys,

after mentioning Phatom Super 210 in one of the post few people shown interest in it, so here are the details

This is my Phantom 210, around 31" wingspan, twin brushed motor plane which uses variable speed of these motors to turn. This is my 1st plane, bought around 3 yrs back for only Rs 1900 from Pune, in anticipation to start my hobby and could not fly  ;D because I didn?t know how to fly  Huh? and later on started to believe that at such a small power it will not fly   :headscratch:!!!!!! So I kept it back in its box.

Now I have learnt a little of flying, and planning mostly in electric, I decided to modify this plane with Brushless motor setup Shocked.
Bought some hardware and modified it.

Specs are:
Since I was planning to use small prop I used high Kv motor
HexTronik 24gram Brushless Outrunner 3000kv, motor is mounted using sketch pen cap as seen in the pictures.
Prop: GWS EP Propeller (DD-5043 125x110mm)
25 A ESC,
4 Ch synthesised Rx (72Mhz),
3 HXT 5 gm servos, 2 for aileron and 1 for elevator, no rudder control
Since wing is Dihedral shape at the half of the length I had to use 2 servos for ailerons instead of 1, more over I didn?t had Y-ext and Rx was of 4Ch, so I decided to use Aileron to Rudder Mix for other aileron servo. Servos are fixed using double sided tape for rest I use superglue. Battery 2s1p 750mah Lipo.

Setup is great, gave me around 7 min of flying time at half throttle. Even half throttle was enough for good flight. I didn?t dare to go for full throttle, as I was little scared that something may come off!!!!!!

taken in last somewhere around oct!!!

after few flights i crashed it so motor and mount was destroyed so later on used 8 mm motor mount and CS 2805 2400kv motor!!!

What field is this ?  Looks great  with all the green

Nice mod too on the plane... wonder why the mount was not moved a bit back, you could have had some crash protection that way ?

Hey Ashish, I tried to modify exactly similar Chinese plane last year but with Pusher Prop BL motor. Crashed twice due to terrible CG/Thrust compensation.

I have exactly same motor and other electronics (LiPO , servo etc).

could you please tell the Thrust angle and CG of the plane so that I may try the same ?

Hi Ujjwaana,

would like to know about Thrust Angle and what specific steps you follow for CG? Please do share your experience

Regards,
Dileep

frankly speaking i didnt bother about the thrust angle much, but try to keep little down and tilted to right!!! but not sure exactly how much!!!!! just a little!!!!

abt CG again i kept it around 1 1/2" from leading edge, again no specific calculations just by guess!!!
and as u can see it is flying grt!!!!

hi,

I recently purchased this plane and I leaned that one motor is less powerful than the other,do you know how to fix it.It would be a big help. ???

hi Zead,
frankly speaking i was not able to fly this plan, until i modified it with my electric setup!!!
i really dont think it can fly with original setup so i modified it....
i dont think it is for serious RC hobbiest...

abt fixing ur issue no idea yaar, you may hav to change ur motor!!!
i think i have original motors with me, need to chk my boxes..

cheers
Ashish

hello Ashish,

Thanks for the info,I am new in this hobby so I thought of getting a cheap beginner china plane which cost me Rs 1300,do u know any good rc shops in mumbai ?  :o .

if u r seriously getting into this then, there are few online shops.
like rcforall, rcdhamaka, u can also contact pvn2000 on this forum, he is from mumbai and got gud planes and electronic setups.
u can also search in differetn section of this forum.

but total cost would 10k-15k!!!
that will include ur transmitter, plane electric motor, speed controller, battery charger. hope this will help u. let me know if u need more info.

cheers!!!

Hi Friends,

I also bought this phantom super 210 china plane just today only (same yellow color piece) from pune. I was very happy when i opened that box and fixed the airfoil and propllers and went to ground. The first try with hand through was failed and it came down. The second try also failed. It was going some distance in the air and taking curves in the air and falling down. I tried third time, unfortunately this time it has crashed and the airfoil (wing) was broken into 2 pieces. It has become just useless. I think the wing was made up of foam board.

I was highly disappointed with this today. Friends, Can any one suggest me, is it possible can i get the spare wing for this. So that i can use it for my plane ?

wing details :-
1) Dihedral shape
2) 31" wingspan
3) Attached the sample image of the wing.

Thanks in advance......

I bought this plane in pune in hadapsar in magarpatta city in Destination Center.

In DC ( Destination Center ) there are 2 to 3 toy shops. you can easily find it.

But as per my experience....

this is not good toy for learners. It got crash and has become useless on the same day i bought it. Especially the wings are very delicated material and will spoil very easily even for a simple crash also. And you can not get the spare wing at all. As you already read in this post, the default setup of this plane will not fly properly. If you are ready to upgrade, it may work.

Any its ur wish....

thanks VC sir. This was one of my very early mods... This plane has played key role in learning...after upgrade this has become very good trainer.
It can not fly without the upgrade. I used 24gm blue wonder motor

wing is made up of laminated foam and i also broke it once, but yes with appoxy it is repairable

Yes i wanna upgrade it.
@Ashish sir: plz post the config you have used.
@kumardasai: can u let me knw exactly where it is in Magarpatta.

In entire magarpatta city, there is only one shopping center that is called DC ( Destination Centre ). Once u reach magarpatta city, you just ask any one about DC. Every body knows the DC and its a famous shopping mall inside magarpatta city.  Inside DC there is an AXIS bank ATM . just after two or three shops there is a toy shop. I bought it from this shop.

I also repaired the wing and sticked it with the glue....but its not much helpfull.

@ash: How you repaired it ?

i think, i used fevitite......used 3mm CF rod to reinforce and used fiber tape...and it did fix my wing!!!!!

and now it is in the corner.. tail crushed........not flying it anymore...but may be in future.....just for fun....

if i get some time will post picture of repaired wing!!!!

@ mandar,,i think i bought it from Laxmi Rd. there is one toy shop in one of the galli!!!!!! and it is almost 3-4yrs.....

@ mandar : Can you please also check with the toy shop owners, if they can get a spare wing ? Because it is a machine made up, it can not be designed with hands and/or tools also. That curves and dihedral shape is very difficult to get with hands and/or tools. It would be really great if they can get a spare wing. So that i can re use my plane with upgrades.

i dont think spare wing will be available... all these Chinese stuff.....but yes u can make one using 5 mm biofoam......it did not need to be curved even flat would also do and you can make it dihedral....

Nice build!

I tried same way on my piper cub wing and it went note down when hand launched.

One of experience flier told me that i keep the thrust axes parallel to the plane axes and due to that trust axes try to match with planes access when throttle is open. because of that it will dive down when hand launch.

Do you know how much up thrush angle you should provide?

Is there any standard angle or formula to calculate the angle of up thrust axes.

Thank you,
Atul

Did you gave any up

Hi Atul,

about thrust angle....it should be 2-3 degree down and also in right direction...that means motor should point little don words and in the right direction.....

about nose down... it could be because nose is heavy.......

I was thinking opposite of it?

Can you please upload one photo from side angle so that we can see tail to nose and the angle of motor to the axes of plane?

Thank you,
Atul
