hello guys, i just came back from manipal (a very nice place) yesterday for the teaching break that the first years get after the first sessional examinations. i am here in mumbai till the 15th. while i was in manipal on my birthday my parents and my sister bought me the new Easystar II and i am extremely grateful to them and sanjeev uncle at rcdhamaka for making it possible.

it looks really beautiful . i shall begin building it today or tomorrow i guess. i am yet to order the electronics which include

Motor - ?
Esc - suitable
4 Metal Gear Servos
turnigy nanotech lipo

i am going to be using this aircraft for fpv flight when i am back in december as i am yet to order fpv gear. so keeping that in mind i wanted to ask all of you guys which Motor should i go for. it shall be towing up all the fpv gear as well so would like to go for an overpowered setup.
also any advice on good metal gear servos in 9-11gm range. the capacity of the nanotech shall depend on the above factors.

edit - the manual mentions the plane has to be glued using medium CA and epoxy wont work do you guys know any locally available brand of medium CA and an activator for it. thanks

I guess you could use araldite rapid for epoxy and Normal Anabond CA which should be available at any hardware shop.

ragav_krish as i mentioned the manual prohibits the use of epoxy so araldite rapid is out. as for anabond CA, is it medium viscosity or thin like fevikwick. thanks

Even i'm going to use fevikwik 702 as pointed by Atul.. My EZ*2 is in box since march this year..!!!! Will assemble it soon..

Glue:
If you love your model then please do not use any thing less than fevikwik 702. You can also use fevikwik 203, but it will set much faster and will increase chances of a making a mistake.

Servo:
For rudder elevator you can use HobbyKing 939MG Metal Gear Servo 2.5kg/ 12.5.
For ailerons HXT900 9g / 1.6kg / .12sec Micro Servo fit perfect, you don't need a metal gear servo here as there is a small direct link to control surface therefore no friction due to control rod tube (like in rudder/elevator). However you will have to extend the wires of the servo so that they can reach up to the wing root. You can add an servo extension or like I prefer open up the servo and solder a longer wire (sounds difficult but is actually very easy)

Motor:
This is a huge topic in itself. But if you want a decent motor with just enough power and efficiency ration then go with a 2830 1300kv motor like this one at aeroworks.co.in.

If you are aiming for maximum power then go for 2836 1500kv motor like the Turnigy Aerodrive SK3 - 2836-1500.  

If you are aiming for maximum efficiency then go for 2836 1200kv like the EMAX Grand Turbo GT2215/09 from RcDhamaka.com. But be ware the EMAX Grand Turbo GT2215/09 has a 4mm shaft, which means you will have to ream one of the shaft adapter supplied with the easystar.

glad to see that you joined Manipal University for your Engg degree.
For Easystar I suggest FEVIFIX all purpose adhesive from the makers of Fevicol. With medium CA and kicker you won't get a second chance to joining the fuselage halves accurately, if you make a slight mistake while joining the two parts then you can't undo it for a second attempt.

Fevifix is much more forgiving in that aspect. It cures in about 10 minutes. Spread fevifix evenly on the mating surfaces of both halves of the fuselag and join them together firmly and hold them with tape or rubber bonds while curing. when held together excess glue would be squeezed out, it is clear and non staining, simply wipe it off with a little wet tissue paper. Wait for 15 min and the completed fuselage would be ready for further assembly.

hi krish the manual says not to use epoxy so i was planning not to use araldite. i am not familiar with anabond but lets see which glue is the winner. anabond - +1

i guess i have to choose between power and efficiency. when the fpv setup comes in i was planning on single power supply(not yet confirmed) with a filter so i think efficiency shall matter too.

could you tell me how much the easy star can lift with a stock set-up because the fpv gear should not be more than 150gms(rough estimate).



hi rao uncle that was the biggest fears i had in mind since CA sets fast, it could lead to errors , i will get the fevifix too but the manual asks you to use a CA based glue. do you think the bond with fevifix could be vulnerable later.

so i have two options now fevikwik 702 or fevifix. atul bhaiya and sls could you tell me the curing time for fewikwik 702.

150gms should be fine but try to keep AUW under 1000gms other wise it would fly (and land) very fast and most of your FPV time would be with you throttle up, which is not very smooth.
702 sets in 10 seconds but that's what you need, you need a glue which will give you 2~3 seconds to align but would not ask you to hold the glued parts together for 10~15 mins.
Try to save weight where ever you can. All the best for your power setup

Just a quick one, any reason you recommend the metal gear servo for rudder & elevator? i am planning to go for HXT 900 at all places..

Also, does elevator/rudder servo need to be glued too, i can see the plastic coverings for servos for placement inside the fuse.hope it doesnt need glueing.

Any suggestion here.

Pikle asked for metal gear servos, that's why the recommendation. Also he is after a heavier setup (FPV) so it makes sense. You can use any servo that fits. HXT 900 would work and fit fine, you will just have to trim the foam servo cover (reduce height/depth) so that it fits flush on the fuselage.

HXT 900 would fit tight enough and gluing is not necessary but it will not "lock" in place because of the screw holes PFA picture. Try to dry fit and you'll understand what i'm saying. Glue in the plastic piece in the fuselage first and then push in the servo, you'll see its quite a tight fit.

hi everyone so i went out searching nearby by home and could find no sources for fevikwik 702 so i bought another brand of ca which i could get in a small bottle with a nice nozzle but it is thin CA.

sls will it be a problem strength wise if i use thin CA and also could you tell me i what kind of shops i could find the 702 fevikwik or even online thanks.

You can look for 702 in hardware store and big stationary shops. I always use feviquick 203 which is thin CA, no problem strength wise just a little difficult to handle because it is so free flowing and sets atleast 3 times faster than 702.

I never suggest anything to anybody unless I tried that or seen it tried first and know for sure that what I suggest  works perfectly. I used Fevifix on my Easystar  more than a year ago and never had a problem with it. Till today the bond is as good as new. Use FEVIFIX without any worries. You won't regret it later.

Easystar -II is easy peasy to make, Few points to remember

(a)  I used HK Medium and Thick Glue

(b)  You can make a mistake in fixing Elevator lock   , so take your time

(c)  For Easy one guys CG is at 73 mm, at this CG there is no trim required at all, all controls are neutral, Down throw of aileron is 1/2 of that of up, this is to eliminate Adverse Aileron Drag (read Basic Aerodynamics Thread for explanation)

(d)  at 73 mm hardly any push force for inverted

(e)  I am using 2836 2200KV 696 watts motor with stock prop, HK MG servos, Nanotech 2600mah 3S Lipo, such high watt motor is for FPV gear, she climbed at less than 20% throttle in this setup, never went above 1/2 throttle till date

25% Throttle Swing Javelin Chuck (taught by Sandy, thanks sandy), and she climbs away easily, Thanks RCDhamaka for bringing this beauty to India

i think, BOSONY, or something like that, those are acrylic based spray cans available either in stationary or automotive shops, who does denting penting job.....they are good for EPOs or his kind of foam, but will eat up Biofoam. u have to be careful on biofoam....
