Title: Multiplex twinstar ii build log
Post by: Rcjabalpur on April 30, 2015, 11:07:51 PM
Multiplex twinstar ii build
I recently ordered a twinstar ii from rcd and will be starting the work on it soon , as of now iam in the middle of getting all the parts . I will be receiving my kit tomorrow (hopefully) and my setup will be as follow -
2*emax 2210/13
2*turnigy 30A plush esc
2*haiyin 3s 1300mah batteries (not to sure yet)
2*master airscrew 8*6 three blade props
                               Or
2*master airscrew 8.5*4 two blade props
1*futaba r2008 receiver

My motor on the two blade props should not go above 15A , since i'll be extending the battery to esc lead I want to keep this margin . The build will go rather slowly as i have orderer the medium and thick CA from tower hobbies and it will come only by 12-15 of this month .

I got my kit today and it was a bit scattered around , i have seen multiplex kits before they usually are neatly packed in individual bags , in my kit all the parts were packed inside the fuse , iam yet to take a part count but i hope everything is there . I am yet to receive my servos (hs-81) and the medium and thick ca aftger which build will proceed. All the rest of my stuff has been gathered up and is on the table.

Got my servos today , never knew a shop named as sumeet instruments sells hitec servos in india , great shop with equally good service , the other two servos came in from rcforall and the packaging box was beaten up (yet to test them) but i hope they are fine . I removed the extra elapor from around the nacelles, also i dont want to overload this thing with stickers , please let me know is this wing design looks fine .

Did a wee bit of more work , added the elevator and rudder outer and inner snake sleaves and the push rods , also statted adding the decals. Will complete the hatch assembly today itself . I will also have to cut and grind the spar covers to fit the servo and battery leads , will do that today itself .

Just hating how slow this thing is going , joint the wing retainer screw parts together , they have a clip system so you push until they lock up and then pour the ca . Completed the canopy locking system , they are a tight fight you need a bit of strength to take it out . Added a few more decals .

Since i was extending my battery to esc wires i went a size big (16awg-14awg) for the extension wire , the higher gauge wire would just not fit , after a bit of digging and cutting it finally did . Not the neatest but it works for sure .  Will be adding the servo and the servo wires tomorrow.

That motor mount was designed by vortex Rc , they fly lots of twinstars a lot, so it's user based design, definitely better than stock which was designed for brushed motors.

Did some motor testing , iam pulling 175w at15A constant with a 3s 2200 mah battery . I would probably use 8*4 or 7*6 props later on as of now 8.5*4 is for the maiden.

Had three nice flights at my farm , but this thing puts it nose up after 30% of power . I will probably have to change the motor thrust angles .
