Title: My Coro-Towel easy to build/fly plane
Post by: v2 eagle on July 30, 2013, 11:26:34 PM
Hi All,

Let me introduce myself, Im Ashok from Chennai,Tamilnadu.

Ive been a Robotics enthusiast for years and started this RC hobby months ago.
Read a lot of articles in RCI and finally got the courage to make my long desired plane RC towel from Makezine.

Made my first plane from 5mm coroplast with plans from here,
http://makezine.com/projects/make-30/the-towel-rc-stunt-plane/

made some modifications like,
  • Made the whole airframe out of Coroplast instead of Depron due to non availablity of Depron.
    Used a 1000mah battery instead of 2200mah.
Made a landing gear since the towel is difficult to launch from hand,
made a taildragger from iron wire.
used a TGS sport precision propeller instead of SF propellers as SFs tend to break almost every impact.

it is a real good trainer indeed, i maidened it on Last sunday and found it good and stable.
its easy to build and fly for those budding people who dont like making airfoil and dont know how to balance CG and stuffs, just COPY the plan,CUT the CORO, PASTE the CA glue, attach the electronics. Done.

Will post the images by today and video soon....

I would like to thank everyone in this forum where i got enough knowledge to build and fly things.
Thanks RCI team. :hatsoff: :hatsoff: :hatsoff: :hatsoff: :hatsoff:

Hi Ahmed,
The plans, buildlog, videos are available on makezine.com and youtube, just search for "Towel RC plane" and you will get all the resource, ill post my photos tonight complete. just cut the airframe as per the Plan without any changes, and it will fly fine without any modifications.

AK.

Sorry guy,
I do not know how but im not getting any updates about this thread,
This is sure a good and simple build plane and can be completed within 2 hours.

Sandeep sir, Mugi is good but a little difficult to build with its airfoil.
this is the motor and ESC used,
http://www.rcdhamaka.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=100_95&products_id=1467 (http://www.rcdhamaka.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=100_95&products_id=1467)
http://www.rcdhamaka.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=100_93&products_id=391 (http://www.rcdhamaka.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=100_93&products_id=391)
with 9x5 slowfly prop from quadkopters.com
this can do almost unlimited vertical with this combination along with a turnigy 2200mah 3S battery,
Total weight goes around 400grams.
The steel wire is normally used for construction and fencing works, around 1.5mm thick and comes for a 250grams roll for just 15rs.
One problem with this craft is the very high stall speed due to no airfoil, its almost like a jet and catches everyone eyes in the ground.
Now added led light strip with this for night flying...
