L'enfant Terrible du RCIndia

Inspired by Swizera and Vinayak, I decided to build this wonderful little plane designed by Russ40 Bow. I started work from scratch last evening at 4pm and finished it at around 11pm with breaks in between. Total build time would be around 4 or 5 hours.

KFm3 Aerofoil Wingspan 33", Length 24"

FG pipe for fuselage (Didn't want to destroy my FG or CF arrows)
3mm Coro
Styrofoam central pod
CF 2822 motor
Hextronics 9gm servo for Ailerons
Hextronics 5gm servos for Rudder / Elevator
9 x 5 DD prop
1300mAh Turnigy 3S
HK Red Brick 25A Esc
CF 2mm push rods
Bicycle spoke undercarriage - will reinforce it later

2pcs 2mm iron rod slid into the wing flutes for rigidity.
Wing tips crafted separately and joined to the main wing with epoxy and then hot glue - SOLID!

AUW 480 grams

Lots of power, flies out of the hand at half throttle.

To all beginners - YOU MUST BUILD THIS - It is GREAT fun! Thumbs Up

Good one Sir.. In fact Awesome build  Clap by expert  Salute as usual.

Best luck for median .

what is "FG pipe for fuselage" means Huh? .

This is plane is really a quick build and performs well. I remember I had completed it in overnight that's the reason my thread name is something.. (quick) . This my third scratch build and fly well.

My first scratch build Blue Baby 24" couldn't fly , some mistake in CG. Second custom designed Pusher fly one loop and crashed. Third  Russ-40 which is flying till date. Third again BB 33" couldn't perform again due to incorrect ailerons. So till date Russ-40 is my favorite. Now new Easy Star II kit is waiting to get assemble  Giggle

Nice build VC. BTW that motor is too good. Myself and ujjwal are a huge fan of it Wink Cheap and powerful. BTW hows the 25 A red brick?

Suggested upgrade: A velcro strap for the batt  Smiley

Red Brick seems to be good. Ran the prop at full throttle for a minute. Felt a little warm.

Battery has been trussed up with 2 cable ties and is mounted on a sponge bed. Rock solid! Thanks for mentioning the velcro strap idea. I just couldn't find my roll in time!

Great work on the trainer. Where did you source the FG fuse? Also any ideas where i can find CF arrows for cheap in India? I was thinking if I could use the flat PVC wiring pipe, maybe one U section for the fuse. Any Inputs?

VC, one more question. What have you done for the wheel stopper to prevent the wheels from coming out?

1. I was very lucky to get some POP (Point of Purchase) materials that were being thrown away by a client after a successful product launch. These turned out to be FG tubes in varying dia.

2. FG arrows should be available at all large sporting goods stores but they may not be 'cheap'. Same for CF arrows.

3. Many people have used alternate materials like aluminium channels and the like. Please go through the links in Reply # 1 and you will find alternatives for building the fuselage.

4. The undercarriage frames were built out of bicycle spokes and I mounted the wheels on the threaded end and screwed the supplied nut in. Threadlocker completed the trick.

Have you tried contacting these guys for broken / damaged arrows? You could get a bargain. I would be interested in some shafts. All the best!

Very good build VC sir.  Thumbs Up
just a small idea if you like.
sir you can also just increase the front pod area (by shifting the wings a little back or increase the pod) and mount the battery above.
Incase the landing gears fails the battery is always safe .
Just attaching the pic , what i  am trying to say.

Good idea Swizera, but won't that spoil the airflow over the KFm3 foil?

VC good build..

However, its not a good idea to put the battery down, as when u land there are chances of the battery hitting the ground and in most cases it does..

My two cents..

Agreed! That is why I reinforced the landing gear. However, it is never safe 'enough'.

A few doubts from a plane-noob:
-is it important to run a CF rod / any other tube along the fuselage of a 3mm coro plane (33" wingspan) even if I find it's structure 'firm'?
-that plane is a scratchubuilt blubaby 33" and I am yet to fix the wings. I am unable to give it a dihedral of ~1.5" as per the plan. I have received replies about that and I am yet to try them. But my wing is just a flat piece of coro (like yours). Is this fine, or should it be a kind of aerofoil thing?
- is it important to reinforce the wings?

Thanks.
