Title: My First experience with Sky surfer
Post by: mirmoazam on March 10, 2012, 04:36:34 PM
I was very excited and eager to get the Skysurfer in air once i bought it, I want to share this experience

The day started with me trying to access the Airfield at IIsc, Bangalore(I was able to do it before) but not that lucky this time  :banghead:
I travelled in a car and the security simply refused to allow me

Then i planned to go to UAS Campus Ground at Hebbal, No security at the gates :), Me and my friend sneaked into the ground with the plane setting it up and i was all happy until one caretaker came to me advising me to take permission from the Ground In charge. I went to him with the Fuselage in my hand convincing him that it's just a Thermocol plane and would do no harm to anybody , He was convinced at last telling me not to disturb the Cricket match that was going on...I assured that i woudn't  ;D He didn't know that i'm a beginner

Back to the ground confident.....Checked the controls and throttles...it roars like a beast  >:D. Just hoping that i woudn't disturb anybody :giggle: :giggle:.My friend launched it, The plane was high in the Skies ....when i forgot i wasn't supposed to disturb.. anyone. >:D The plane was flying comfortably high just above the Batsman ......and then all the hell broke Loose  >:(. There was a slight gust when the plane lost control which resulted in a 90 deg nose dive might have been a 2g or more and a vertical pull up again at 90 deg just when it was about to touch the Ground( was lucky that it didn't hit anyone) This scared everybody..and the Ground Manager started yelling at me ....Ultimately I lost control  and a crash :banghead: on a tree.....and a long range of questions by the Ground Manager asking me
1. Who gave you the permission to fly ?-----and a typical Government officer question, telling me to show it in a  letter head
2. Am i an Indian ?......This guy's a first person on Planet to ask me that....I calmed him by Speaking in Kannada( Thank's i learnt that in School)
3. Prove my Identity ?....I tried to explain him that i'm an Aerospace Engineer....and i very well know what i'm doing!
4. A long lecture followed :( telling the usual stuff which included advice that the plane may damage someone's Temples..i mean a Brain :giggle: and a long list of what if's(Explosives,Security,Cops and what not ) ???

Came back home Disappointed. But Still no damage to the Sky Surfer  :hatsoff:

Can someone in Bangalore help me out to get this thing in air again ?

Thats why I prefer farming fields over grounds! :)

Same with me! I'm lucky to have huge a field nearby. There is absolute solitude early mornings. The only limitation is that it is only suitable for belly landings. You cannot land/takeoff with landing gear.

mirmoazam, I suggest you try flying it out early mornings when its very calm. It's very easy to control then.

Hi mirmoazam,if u don't mind me asking, did u buy the sky surfer from rcbazaar ? If yrs, what electronics setup have u chosen sir ? What's the configuration of the motor, prop, battery, esc etc ? And how much flying time do you get with your setup ? I was planning to buy a sky surfer this week and any suggestions and inputs from another new modeller will be really helpful for me. Many thanks sir. Happy flying.

Hi Khanna, yes i did buy this from RC Bazaar , but  this model is in stock at RCDhamaka, you can buy this from there and the only difference is the name and called as EasyStar

Ya,I had seen their website. Ur right, they do have it. I think its the easystar II on their website. It may even be easystar I. To be honest I don't really know the difference between them. That's the reason I wanted to know what electronic setup are you using sir ? I may even go for that if sky surfer is out. What I wanted was a longer flying duration. So please share your valuable inputs and tips sir.

I have used a Stock brushless that comes with the Skysurfer ,20A Avionic ESC, 11.1v 2200 mah Lipo (1300mah is recommended) , 4 * Aeolian 9g servos and a FS-TH 9X TX/RX.

The 2200mah battery is supposed to give me a flight time of 35 minutes and I haven't flown that long but the 1300 mah battery should give you atleast 20-25 minutes of flight time. RCD should also be offering a similar setup with their Easy Star

Easy Star II from RCD comes without any electronics/motor. Also, the motor mounting for Easy Star is a front mounting one. So you need a front mounting motor.

DrGKhanna, I have an extra SkySurfer kit lying with me. Unfortunately it's for pick up only as the current cost includes courier charges (Rs. 4800). So sending through courier again would mean extra charges.
