Title: Need help with Open aero and KK 2.1 auto leveling on airplane
Post by: v2 eagle on March 25, 2014, 09:03:25 AM
Hi all,

I want to put my KK 2.1 in my rc plane for stabilization and auto-leveling  (full 4channel with 1 aileron servo) but i have no idea where to start with.

All i have is a Kk 2.1 board and contrary to the manual it does not have any airplane stabilization option so im thinking to go for open aero.
can any one have their first hand experience share it down here.

Is there anything i need to by apart from a USB ASP programmer(any link to a cheap one would be appreciated)
or can someone point to a link to step by step guide or a good thread/video that have been proven with good results?
any extra help would always be appreciated.

Thanks
Ashok.P

I have not tried this -
but logically this is what you should do

load a quad config

next go to the mixer editor
and define each channel as a servo and change the refresh rate to 80
next load the values for pitch and roll depending upon your servos
give +/-  values to reverse the direction - I think you may have to use
two aileron servos

for the motor / servo which will not be used - normally the head motor in a quad - just
put all values to 0 and leave type as esc

You can get the programmer from ebay along with a 10pin to 6 pin converter makes your life easier. Other than these items you will also need a ubec/or an extra esc with bec to power output rail from m2-m8, and also an MKUSB type serial programmer to use it with the GUI altho this is optional.

You will need to use OpenAero2 for kk2.1 and there is very well documented thread with user guides, maintained by the developer. Flashing is similar to kk2.0 using lazyzero's flash-tool, with the correct firmware for your specific board. You can find many videos on flashing kk 2.0 to use as reference.

Sidewinder thanks a lot for your info,
but haven't updated anything in the KK 2.1 so far, but as  an embedded engineer by profession this should be same as programming an embedded board. a link to the flashing tool would be useful.

Link for flashtool http://lazyzero.de/en/modellbau/kkmulticopterflashtool#download (http://lazyzero.de/en/modellbau/kkmulticopterflashtool#download)

Link for flashing guide https://code.google.com/p/nextcopterplus/wiki/OpenAero2_Getting_Started (https://code.google.com/p/nextcopterplus/wiki/OpenAero2_Getting_Started)

I had no background in engineering whatsoever, so I can safely say its not very complicated. Follow instructions and read and collect as much info as you can because self help is the best help

Bought USBASP from sp4mm3r, shipped through DTDC, should say a good service.
Successfully flashed open aero, everything is going good until the screens says "Sensor Error".
Re-powered the board with all the still stability i could and still getting the same error. seems like the sensor is jumping to all the values like hell. is there any known fix for this.

possible cause, joined both the power lines for M1&M2-M8, could this be causing any noise in the electric line. should remove the connection and power it with different supply and should see the results.
any other suggestion are always welcome.

Now thinking of going back to kk2.1 firmware.

Sir kindly tell whether/how it worked. Kindly tell as I'm also planning to do it with my KK3.0 blue board.
