Don't wake a Tiger until you've factored the teeth

Scratch built from plans available on outerzone.co.uk

Designed by the master Y. Matsumoto, this was in response to the sad end of another super Matsumoto-of-Pilot-Models design, the Zattack based on his Attacker 28.

Brief specs:

52"span, AUW of 1350 grams including 3000 mAh 3S LiPo, DYS 3536-1250 KV motor, 40/50 A ESC, 10*7 e-prop.

Only one pic in the build log - testing the wing incidence. (It was about 1.5 degrees positive, so I left it as it was)

The model flies beautifully, and hardly needed any trimming.

Having a shorter fuse and smaller wing area than the Zattack (QB is 52" span, Zattack is 49") the model is nimble, responsive and quick. At a pinch I would say the Zattack is more stable, and the QB 20 is more aerobatic.

Video is uploading (870 MB  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes ) Will post once it is done

Thanks Vin, Sundaram sir

The Incidence Meter is described here: http://www.rcindia.org/tools-materials-and-building-techniques/wing-incidence-meter/

The level is used for levelling a datum or reference line, though when just checking wing incidence with respect to horizontal stab that is not necessary

Real Master of Coro.  Hats Off
Love the details like the wing mounting bolts that don't need a screwdriver, tailwheel assembly, Allen bolts for u/c, tiny hold down screws for hatches...
I notice that you seem to have standardised your production technique so that it is easily repeatable.
Hope you also post your builds on RCG for international audiences.
And Many Happy Returns of the Day.

1. Thank you sir
2. Thanks again. In fact some of the screws are self tapping screws through the corro into the wood below for the Firewall, LG Plate, and wing bolt-down blocks
3. I am trying to standardise. I don't design: I only take an existing design in Balsa/Nitro and try and adapt to Corro/Electric. Soetimes, surprisingly, it works  Wink
4. Not RCG. I do post sometimes on spadworld.net, but that group is not as poular nowadays as it was 5 years ago
5.  Thanks Thanks

Happy birthday sir

today I learn something new I know it was there but do not know the exact method to measure incidence thanks for the link its helpful

I download a simple app on my nokia which calculate angle with reference surface I think (jugad) it can work in place of
Robart Incidence Meter
(as seen from photo taken from net)
hope such app are available on anroid also)

Gaurang,  Thanks

I would normally use 4 mm for the fuse, tail and ailerons, and 2 mm for the wings. However since 4 mm is not available since some time I used 3 mm. The fuselage has doublers of 3 mm from nose to just behind the wing

That, Iyer sir, is the wonder of SPADs!  Grin Grin

Initially I used to put a lot of effort in rounded LE's. Then I found it didn't make a difference  Cool

A lot of other interesting things too. Leave the wingtips open. Same difference.

Hi sanjay,

I can see from the pictures that you use Hitec optic6 2.4Ghz ? which receivers are you using (minima or optima) and how are they performing. Any interference or etc issues ?

Very observant of you Sahil

This is a truly wonderful radio, with every possible feature except one - model naming. I can only give model numbers from 0-9. As I have only 6 receivers, this has never been a problem.

HiTec reliability is legendary. I have this radio since 5-6 years, although I have only been using it regularly since I returned to the hobby about 1 1/2 years ago. I have never had a single glitch or problem with it and the range is easily beyond the range of vision of a 40 sized model; about 1.5 Km +.

I have an Optima 6 & Optima 7 with telemetry (which I don't use - the sensors are too expensive)

I also have 4 clone receivers bought from Hobby King. They too work perfectly, are only about $20-22, but don't have telemetry. These are manufactured by FrSky. They give the same range and reliability as the Optima Series.

I have not used the Minima. I bought my Radio set and Optima receivers from rc4all, Chennai. I understand the range of the Minima is 400 metres, which although much lower, should be adequate. But the clones from HK were just so much cheaper and work fine too! No problem with Customs also - I got them by registered air mail, one at a time. Never paid duty or had any issues

Incidentally, I am using the original NiMH cells which came with the radio. 4-5 years old, but work fine. I get about 1 1/2 - 2 hours actual flying time, which is more than enough for me. Only thing is they tend to self discharge when the radio is idle. For that I have got 6 LSD NiMH from HK (the Tx is a 7.2 V system) but haven't yet installed them as the old ones are still going strong Cheesy

Yes, the three mistakes high rule.

Frankly, I was flying < 1 mistake high. I do these things on other models too, this being a different and much faster model I was flying about 3/4 throttle, or about 70 Kmph. Came out of a knife-edge, I did get unsighted - at a distance the top and bottom wings look similar, thought it was straight and gave up elevator. Unfortunately it was inverted - famous last words  ROFL ROFL

IMHO the biggest damage was to my battery - a 30 flight old 3000 mAh Zippy LiPo  Cry Cry Cry

I'm repairing it, will be able to do so, but my repairs are not that good and the models are never quite the same  Bang Head

Nice One Sanj... As usual superbly built plane that looks good too.... Tempted to build one.. Would love to build a plane with you one day.. it would be fun; you make it look too easy!

Safe landings..

MICROSTAR 2000

Hi sanjay,

Even i got my stuff Hitec stuff from Rcforall, they have very competitive pricing or better than international sites even with all the free shipping, discounts and coupons  Smiley. Minima's are full range receivers without telemetry.

MICROSTAR 2000

Quote
I also have 4 clone receivers bought from Hobby King. They too work perfectly, are only about $20-22, but don't have telemetry. These are manufactured by FrSky. They give the same range and reliability as the Optima Series.

Good to have alternate receivers for Hitec 2.4Ghz especially in the micro rc range.

Quote
Incidentally, I am using the original NiMH cells which came with the radio. 4-5 years old, but work fine. I get about 1 1/2 - 2 hours actual flying time, which is more than enough for me. Only thing is they tend to self discharge when the radio is idle. For that I have got 6 LSD NiMH from HK (the Tx is a 7.2 V system) but haven't yet installed them as the old ones are still going strong

That's great news  Smiley
