Call me crazy if you like but I just love this plane, while I could not do the maiden of my Su-31 last weekend I thought I would take 2 for maiden instead of 1 as I have some free time till 4th December to really build the models.

Cut it on 6mm depron - Thanks Foamy... I got finished with 2 so will ping you when I need more :)

So far the fuse is completed and gave it nice finish using sandpaper..I used normal thermocoal inside for strength.

Looks great and it looks huge..
With that motor and 7x6 you wont get enough thrust. ( I think I had this in my Red trainer :D It was severely underpowered, though it had other problems) 
Regarding Gyros, what I had read in rcgroups was If you are using a gyro,mixer,servo with a plane. Make sure to use all from the same company. Anyway I havent yet been able to successfully use a gyro with the plane. Lost two servo's till now when used with gyro, not sure whether its coincidence.

I tried to make sure I dont oversize the fuse's width... your plane had most of the thrust blocked by the fuse I guess... still lets see how it goes. Gyro are optional... will add them after a successful test flight only

It was cessna which you saw which had oversized fuse, not the trainer  :giggle:

You planning on fixing the wing or attaching it with rubberband like ashok? Fixing the wing will cause transportation prob i guess.

Awright... I got a little surprise...

I missed my sleep for this, and Rajath you cannot complain if this is another yellow model in my collection. :) Still some work pending on fuse like Lightning & Fake Engine. Only the wings are left from being colored as I ran out of carbon rods.

Status update:

So the fuse is complete.. 99% just some touch up here and there and a fake engine mount pending.
The motor mount is build using some ply board and drilled 4 holes to screw tight the motor.
The wing is complete with airfoil shape... LE & TE shape is pending using sandpaper.

I am planning to put the servo inside the fuse and let the control rods stay inside fuse for the maximum part... they will come out just below the elevator wing and control the elevator & rudder. Ailerons servos will be mounted on the wing itself.

What is the expected AUW? Will it be ready by saturday....

I need some carbon pushrods 3mm, if you can lend me then it can be ready.. I took friday off from office so will work on this guy but without pushrods I cannot finish the wing. If nothing works then I will go to RCDhamaka to get them.

AUW... will try to keep it under 500gm but rest bhagwan malik :)
I want to give it enough strength and detailing.. I could compromise on 100gm extra weight and can put a bigger motor if required.

As you mentioned right now, that  you would like to keep the servos inside the fuse. Am afraid it would be very hard to do so if you have already sticked the fuselage.. In btwn my blue baby has the same design as yours.:)

Dont unnecessarily spend money for carbon fiber for pushrods:D. Once cut you cant reuse it for wings.
Use knitting needles number 14. It comes to just 3grams more.

I gave the servo a dry fit and yeah I agree it wont be that easy but if done properly will keep the beauty of the plane alive :)

Yeah... actually the plan that I am using is also a BB plan.. I see you are using 2212/13 how much thrust does it give and what is AUW for BB ?

this is for support for wings and I doubt knitting needles come in 20" size :)

for pushrods I will probably use 2mm as the rods will stay inside the fuse and should stay safe inside.

You asked for 3mm carbon fiber pushrods in your post, so I thought its for pushrods.
I dont have 3mm tubes, I have rods. Vinay must be having some tubes.

I think I can use rods, what do you use to support the wings ?

I use tubes, some how I feel rods tend to bend more than tubes in midflight.

Nice way to do the static test!!

There is visible 'Up thrust' due to your motor angle. Be careful as actual takeoff may result in a sudden stall. Try to take off at lesser throttle (60-70%) if possible.
I lost my similar design Blue Baby due to bad CG + Motor angle.

Where you guys fly ? may be we can give it a try after evaluating the Electronic City field.

Ujjwaana, CG is near 35-40% from the leading edge of the wing. yeah even I noticed the up thrust and decided to keep it like that for now and maybe I will trim the elevators to control the up thrust. The reason why I believe that up thrust could be fake in this static test is because the way its hanging...

Imagine something is hanging to a static point and it tries to go forward while its hanging... it is bound to go up as the force (pull) is coming from upside.

Vikas, that is one nice build you have there, I have seen these planes rattling over St. Cruz in Mumbai, I suppose they give out flying lessons on these planes..
Just one suggestion after viewing your video..
Your plane is a bit tail heavy which is dangerous, no matter how many tweaks you do a tail heavy plane will always stall unless your fingers are always on the elevator/rudder..

Thanks controlflyer... This plane is my dream plane and I hope to fly it for real someday... Since its inception in late 1938 this is the best flier for beginners so no doubt if people give training session in this. I had seen it couple of times at HAL Airport, Bangalore from my office next to Airport now since that Airport is no longer used commercially I dont see it anymore :(

About the CG & weight adjustment... I will have to do a glide test to check the actual balance.. also I have still not checked the AUW.. my scale just died.

Well... I just decided to do some history check for VT and probably I won't use it for its origin.. VT stands for Viceroy's Territory and there had been lots of discussion regarding changing it to India specific Call sign.

This call sign "VT" was inherited from British when India won Independence but no one bother to pay attention to that, even after more than 60 years of Independence we still follow the same call sign that British used to... I dont think that's a good idea. hmm.. confused :)

Yeah... both of them, my Micro Piper is in Hangar for repairs so wont bring it down there...

why what happened to it?

What a day it was.... woooo... super fun and exhausting. We reached Hoskote around 8am in the morning with Foamybuilder & Rajathv8.. on the field R.C & couple other guys were already there.

I started off with my Su-31, it was underpowered with the original prop that I had been using then I used 6x5 prop and it was able to fly... nicely but yet not enough power to do unlimited vertical climbs. There was too much wind and gusty as well. Su-31 did not had enough weight / thrust to fight back with such gusty wind. The only advantage that I got with the wind is I was able to hover with the nose up and stand in the wind for couple of seconds in the head wind.

Then comes the Piper... boy its wings are too big for such heavy wind, it was not easy to hold it even in hands in strong head wind.. it wanted to take off automatically without any power. I used 10x6 prop for this and it had the power to do unlimited climb with such heavy weight. Some problem with the trim of ailerons and I could not fly it for more than 5-10 seconds I guess. Another factor was orientation... I could fight with the ailerons when its tail facing me but as soon as its head turn to me I mess up :) Need more Simulator time I guess.

oh yeah it was exhausting day we stayed there till 2:30pm (more than 6 hours) without any water or food in a hot sunny day. Next time we need to take  some food, enough water / beer & SPF-15 a MUST. I could see the color difference on my arms :)

Following the original post you have referred to in the other forums. I have a question. I intend to scratch build the same model but with a wing span of 33 to 36 inches. How do i do this? Any ideas? Should everything be altered proportionately except the mono-block part & fuselage width adjusted accordingly. Please suggest.
