Title: Precision Aerobatics Katana MX 57":- Build and Fly log
Post by: rcpilotacro on December 08, 2012, 02:29:50 PM
Was buying some spares for Addiction X, then this idea struck me, why not get a Precision Aerobatics Katana MX 57"  (http://www.precisionaerobatics.com/katanamd/kmx/index.html)along with Vortex Generators. (http://www.precisionaerobatics.com/product_details.php?pid=738) here we are, She is powered by Thrust 50 motor (http://www.precisionaerobatics.com/thrustmotors/thrust50.pdf) with 2750 mah 6S nanotech batt and 100 Amps ESC, 17x6 prop.Watch out for build and fly log on this space about this beauty. here are some stock pics

looking at that setup...i seriously doubt what ppl havee been telling me about the flight time i am getting...in ur experience how  much will a 2250 nanotech( 65-130 c) last at with a 60A esc(draw being 40A)

many told to use a simple calculation

flight time in mins = ( capacity of battery in Ah)/(discharge in A) * 60

which gives me a time of around 3mins. which seems unlikely.

whats your say on that...?  :headscratch:

Vish

you are right about the draw and flight time, at full draw yes, throughout the flight you rarely stay at full draw, as voltage falls so does the draw.  hard 3d i heard is 6 min, most displays if you see is about that time, mild 3d and pattern flying should give you 8-10 min.

1. Got a reprimanding kind of email from Precision Aerobatics for the build log of Bandit (Probably they are averse to free advt that happens when people read Build log and Mod Log)

2. I don't want to get into some legal hassle with the company (they did talk about IPR etc)

Please enjoy the fly log, tomorrow is the maiden, keeping my fingers crossed.

@sundaram
Sandy sir,
Was new.
But he made it old even before we (ie, i and missus) could reach the field to watch the maiden.
He tried mode 1 today!
(The two statements above are not connected)

Maidened her today, as usual the motor mount came off inspite of reinforcing etc (see image). I have flagged the issue with the OEM. Let us see what do they have to say.

Maiden was good, took off turned left, motor mount came off, landed.

Thanks to flyingdoc (vikas) who heard the sound of mount coming off, If not for the cowl the mount and the motor would have flown off and aeroplane practically would have become a kite

p.s. the Lt.Col. from Jallandhar has bloody keen eyes. Maybe you will want him as a  spotter. God, miss you devils so much.

Looks like my tryst with Precision Aerobatics is over.  >:( I wrote to them and told them that that into 30secs of flight the motor mount came off, they blamed it on the power-plant and the fact that i didn't use their power plant (how ridiculous can it get). Be that as it may. Motor mount is bullet proofed,  it should now be able to take my power plant :)

Early morning flying was good, prop flew off (I guess sudden surge of throttle did it), needless to say, landed safely

Glad to know it's safe sir

The prop should not come off, surge or no surge. Suggest you have a careful look: something is wrong somewhere sir

That's what I am looking at, prolly, it was my mistake, i didnt tighten the prop nut after fitting the CF Spinner, i am going to have to remove the CF spinner and fly without it for a while, though it lasted threee gruelling sorties before flying off, fly  off it did :banghead:

Post by: sanjayrai55 on October 03, 2014, 10:01:12 AM
Gusty sir, I have once encountered this problem. The root cause was with the spinner backplate, there was not enough thread length for the nut

Normally the engaged thread length should be at least or more than the nominal diameter of the thread
