Hi B4ggu
Oh, I didn't know Pete was emailing you the videos. Ha ha that explains a lot  Grin
I'm sure I know who you are now. Are you still a member of Burbage?

The Mako is a great little plane. I always take mine on holiday wherever I go. It's great on the beach. They can take a LOT of punishment as you can see in the video I posted on Sunday. Pete and another member had a mid-air collision and they both just threw them back into the air. Pete even knocked one of the limbo poles over and broke it. He just threw the plane back in the air and kept flying. Great Fun!

They will fly in just about any wind conditions short of a hurricane too. We have had them flying backwards in a strong wind.
I'll post more Mako stuff when I get it.

Happy flying

Hi Aman
Yes Alan always comes up with good and interesting planes. The "Ducto" is great fun... and loud too.

I've just looked at your City on Google. It looks amazing. India must be a wonderful place to fly.

All the best

Hi Ady,
Sorry for such a late reply;

Yes I am still a member of BMAC.

I keep my Mako that Mark Kettle cut out of Black EPP in the car and fly at Knighton Park after work on days there is no football.

You are absolutely right, those who have not flown this plane, do not know what they are missing; Mako is a delight to fly in windy condition and in sunny warm days with no wind it is a treat.... I fly mine just about a foot off the ground in very tight circuits...

Its great fun daring touch and goes too and with a prop saver, even if it arrives hard on grass instead of touching there is hardly any damage..

I like that Ducko ... doubt if I will be able to get clearance on that noise...

Do keep posting anything you can on your flying..  All the best and safe landings!!

I really like the videos of the Mako flying. It reminds me of my favorite airplane the 3D-Delta by Leadfeather. I have flown my 3D-Delta dozens if not hundreds of times. I want something in a delta about the same size....and I think the Mako will be just what I want.

I am in Florida, USA and use RC Groups of most of my searching for knowledge and plans for RC airplanes. RC India looks like a great resource of information and knowledge! I contacted Deepak and he was kind enough to send me some information......Thank you Deepak!

My Mako is just started and it already looks great to me! What are others using for down thrust and right thrust?

I am going to try to attach a photo of my build hot wire cut and trial fitted.

The second photo shows a moth that I may use for an idea for painting the Mako

Deepak

I don't want to cover up this forum with information that is not interesting to others, but I do love to shoot photos of my builds and write about them. So I will add some information if others are interested.

I built a commercial Twisted Hobbies EPP airplane and was impressed by some of the ways they produce their kits. They are also very good flyers! So I am using some of the Twisted Hobbies ideas to build my Mako. Instead of carbon fiber they use thin strips of wood for strength. My Mako has a thin 9mm wide strip of maple for a spar in the wing. Very easy to install, just cut a straight cut through the wing and glue in the wood...no mess!

I use a computer power supply to heat my hot wire equipment as well as other uses. The computer power supply I use outputs 12 volts, 5 volts and 3.3 volts. It is shown in a photo below. I cut a thin poster board of the parts and use push pins to secure it to the EPP sheet that I am cutting. I built a vertical hot wire kind of like a band saw so I can make nice 90 degree cuts in the EPP. It cuts quickly and kind of seals the edge of the foam. I use the 12 volts output of the power supply for this.

Another use for the power supply is to cut "U" shaped channels out of the EPP for hinges. The EPP will bend where it has been thinned out with the "U" cut. I made a small cutter out of a scrap of wood and a length of .020 thick stainless fishing leader wire. I can slide it along a metal ruler and make nice clean cuts for the elevons and rudder. I use the 3.3 volt on the power supply to heat the short length of wire.

I have cut the fuse doublers out of 6mm EPP and glued them to my Mako. There is a photo of it below.

After doing some drawing of the moth design the size of the Mako, I did not like the look of it, so it will have a different design. The next step is to do a little airbrushing.......

It has been so HOT here that progress has been slow on my Mako build. I am usually a slow builder, but the heat has not helped.

I got some color put on my build. It did not add much weight...maybe less than 1/4 oz. ...my scale is not the best.

Made a design that fit, cut some stencils and airbrushed some neon acrylics on to the EPP. I have used acrylics in the past with little problem, but the neon colors tended to clog my airbrush. Spent more time cleaning than painting. Just taped the bottom with masking tape and shot some black on it. The black and white is easy for me to see, so I usually paint my airplane bottom sides that way.

The Mako is finally ready for flight! Yes I am probably the slowest builder here!

I got the electronics installed. I used Deepak's photos for placement. It balances right on the CG with no battery. That will allow me to use different batteries for weight or length of flight. I had to cut a lot of foam to get the rudder servo low enough to  not interfere with the aileron.

Is anyone using any reflex on the elevons? Some deltas like reflex.

My Mako weighs:
Just the foam glued together.....3 oz.
Foam, glue and paint................3 1/4 oz.
All electronics installed..............8 oz.
AUW with 1000 3s battery.........11 1/2 oz.

Wish me luck on the maiden Thumbs Up Ray

Don't wake a Tiger until you've factored the teeth

Good luck

Here's a hint for all who have to fit servos into foam:

Wrap some electrical insulation tape around the servo, then glue it in (foam safe or hot glue)

When you remove the servo, take out the tape and your servo is back to pristine condition

Thank you sanjayrai55 for the hint about the servos. I did use masking tape in the past so I could clean off the servos, but I have become lazy and just hot glue them down.

Thank you rastsaurabh  for the compliment.

I did maiden my Mako yesterday. It does fly but it needs some adjusting. It wanted to fly with the left wing down. This is the side with the battery, so I will cut out a slot to move the battery to the center of the wing.  I also need to increase the throws, I started out with small throws as the elevons looked large to me. Other than that it does seem to fly fine.

Here is a "proof of flight" video. The video is not very exciting as we wanted to be careful until the Mako is better balanced. It looks great in the air to me! I already want to build a larger version of the Mako maybe 150%!!!
