Title: Scratch built 3 channel glider
Post by: v2 eagle on March 15, 2014, 01:10:39 AM
Hi all,

after seeing Johnny's foam plane with packing thermacole, i decided to make one for myself.
Ripped apart the box that my Sky easy plane came with and made the whole plane out of it.

Plan Pics before build.

Completed covering and everything...
The carton box that the plane sits on is the box came with my sky easy glider.
now serves as a stand.

This plane is a 3 channel with no aileron(will come in next set)

Plan pics attached already and mode to plan.
Polyhedral is 2-3" everywhere.

Power train:
Emax 2812 motor(my favourite)
Hobbywing skywalker 20A ESC
Turnigy 1000mah battery(Gives Exact CG)
8x45 SF prop
hextronik 9gservo for elevator
avionic 9g servo for rudder
Iron wire as push rods

Actually Saurab ji,

I started it on Sunday and completed it on today(Friday)
the maiden will be on tomorrow.
I dont think i qualify for the Sweepstake.
However i have a Pitts python scratch build in mind for that.

she glides like beauty and i assume that the maiden will be rather successful.
Im building this for my friend of mine, he is a beginner and needs one that will fly with least efforts.

Beautiful Ashok.
have you covered the wings with gelatin paper.
Must be very lite. AUW must be less than 400gm

Thanks all for your interest.

This is covered with normal color paper available in stationary shop used to pack gifts. we would have seen papers with designs and this is just plain paper for 1 rupee a sheet. needs around 7 to cover the whole plane.
the AUG is around 483 grams with battery and a 2 spoke landing gear.
Maiden was blazing success, moorthy and others witnessed it this Sunday. gave the video to my friend for uploading and will post the link by tomorrow.

Few glance until then,
1. it doesn't care about nose or tail heavy, it just flies no matter what.
2. any beginner can fly this with success at first attempt.
3. it does hover, harrier and flat spin just like a 3d model. and its difficult to exit a flat spin.
4. tried reaching a height so that i could see it as a spot and it went up amazingly.
5. tried to take of from ground and it took off at around 10 meters effortlessly.
6. the emax 2812 motor and turnigy 1000mah battery gives good balance and a little overpowered for safer hand launch.
7. flight time is around 4-6 mins depends on the flying pattern.
8. the coloring is vital for nice orientation, blue and violet wins the sky.
9. i recommend any beginner who would like to enter the hobby to try this certainly if they want success at first attempt without much effort and fiddling with airfoil and stuff, i actually reversed the wing front with back so that the airfoil is reversed and it still flies without any difference until i noticed it after landing.
10. I finally crashed the plane. wing broke into three pieces, glued together and looks as new, fuselage broke from front till wing mounting area, rebuilding new part and joining it now as of the moment i'm writing this. will fly for sure by next Sunday.

Dear Ashok/V2 eagle,

What indomitable spirit. I salute you! :salute:

I am going to try and build this out of High Density Thermocol just to remember a lesson that I have learnt here.

Thanks a lot VC,
actually i never been this happy after entering this hobby, this crazy looking glider is giving me all the fun, and is a show stopper now in the ground. ive flown around 3- 4 different planes and a tricopter but this one is awesome. this is made from HD thermocole that my sky easy plane came with.

Friends
it was very well built by Ashok. floats like dry leaf. so far i use to fly ARF and PNF  :banghead: never had interest on scratch build.Looking at this now full concentration on scratch build.

Starting from today My Bixler 2 box  ;D looking for plan.

My bother (National Motorcycle Racing Champion 2007-2009 C class)came this sunday witness Ashok scratch build and said "Moorthy you make a plane to waste foam were as He make waste foam into plane" :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Fuse completed and motor mount fitted , now all looking good. the auw comes around 60gms extra than before due to plywood and fibre tape on the inside, but will be more robust and stronger than before.
