HI guys,

For long I was thinking of making WING  Head Scratching Head Scratching. But after seeing Ujjwana’s and Amar’s wing I get motivated to make one!!!!!  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

So here is my 1st wing build pictures  Thumbs Up!!!! It took little longer than expected….. since in original design motor and ESC are open, I decided to make small canopy, so that everything will be inside and will give little different look!!! Drool

Aerofoils is KF4, main wing, canopy  out of 5mm biofoam used 8 mm for KF4 aerofoil!!!!

It took sometime to make template and make canopy and overall structure….made simple wing little complicated  Bang Head Bang Head

Also colored underneath with orange and black….top side will be red and yellow fire. Like shown in last pic, currently half painted with yellow!!!! After doing paint job I decided to cut red fire in radium….
Coloring took lots of efforts than expected…..

I have 3 motors with me CF2805, 2800kv, will try to maiden using this motor on 2s lipo. Then I am planning to use 2627, 3800kv motor with 4” prop and 3s and 2208, 1800kv motor with 6” prop and 3s lipo.

Lets see how things work out…. If everything is pretty smooth then will upgrade to 2218, 2500kv heli motor for more speed!!!!!!

here is some paint job!!!

used Bossony Epoxy color spray cans, beware to spray from ar least 12" from surface, other wise it will eat the foam!!!!!!

at some places it was too concentrated and had little damage to foam but not much significant!!!

 Clap  Beautiful. !!
Please post videos of your maiden flight. I am looking forward to it Smiley

I must say, you have now inspired me to build a profile version of the F-117 Nighthawk   Tongue

I have always wanted to build a model which I can fly over my terrace...

Thank you ! and great effort you put on your Flying Wing  Thumbs Up

finally got some time to upload maiden video for this one!!!

maiden was done in Jun, it took off well but after few seconds it dive down and crashed  Bang Head  Bang Head

i think, since there were no vertical stabilizer, it was little unstable and i could no handle it. i should have gained some height, but anyways, it is repairable but will take sometime. main wing is still intact, damage is only to the canopy section...

video was taken by Saurabh and launched by Sandeep!!!!!

enjoy!!!

If you were not planning to put vertical stabilizers the inherent property of the airfoil should provide the stabilization. The airfoil should be specifically selected for flying wing. It is very difficult to do that though. A true flyingwing will not have vertical stabilizers, but people have fun with winglets.

Kfm-4 is specifically for flying wings and tailless airplanes, as its symmetrical, may be you should give some washout to stabilize it more??

No thats not  a general rule, kmf4  may be symmetrical, but its not specific airfoil for tailless flying wing.

Nice Ash... The maiden atarted all well, but more than lack of winglets(which I would recommend anyway), it more looks like a servo failure or you going into full rates accidentally, or even a sudden CG change (motor/lipo coming off) . Flying wings are very sensitive to CG and control surface and you should put way less throws. a D/R of 20-35% is usually enough on Ailerons and 40% on Elevators.

This should have come first, but I liked you build very much. The fuse, launch tab and the trim scheme (Yellow and white !), if not putting a build thread, could you please send few pics of the plane?

Hi Guys!!!

After having crashed my Wing while trying to maiden, i was able to build the nose so that i can again go ahead enjoy it....

once confident will paint it fully to make it more beautiful.....

here are few pictures after it crashed... fortunately only nose was damaged.... and main wing was intact... but it was totally crushed...

it was crashed last month...

in weekends and after office hr i steal some hrs and slowly started rebuilding its nose...

initially i decided what part of crushed biofoam can be used...then cut it down in straight line so that additional biofoam can be attached to it.

as u can see nose, canopy and launch tab was crushed...
so 1st i started with launch tab, cut out unnecessary part in straight line and stick rest back to wing using Evotite. then added additional biofoam,to complete the shape...

once this is done.. i get support for canopy..
so now time to rebuilt canopy....

taking pieces of biofoam and making fix and match, i finally able to cut it as i wanted...once everything is as per i wanted i used evotite and stick it togather....and results are pretty satisfactory...

pls see the pictures below

after seeing the behavior, as ujjwaana and sunlike suggested, even I initially thought of the servo failure or may be some technical issue…… but servo is still working fine..may be infamous DSM2 glitch…

finally I put detachable winglets and as suggested by Ujjwaana reduce the throws and what a wonder it flew like dream…..gentle and pretty stable...thanks guys....

here are some videos of my wing……

Teddy is the Mascot Prop or just by default  Wink

U can say its, just there by default!!!!! Giggle Giggle

thanks for u comments....U hav always been my inspiration….. Hats Off  Salute

Of course it was computer cutting… except for canopy….I don’t hav so much patience and perfection to cut  Head Scratching…..but yes I did the drawing in CorelDraw and get it cut and those people stick it….

For Canopy I have to cut the radium by hand and stick it piece by piece……

Hello friends. i was interested in making a delta flying wing plane and took the dimensions from the following youtube video but I am quite disappointed with the result as it is not able to takeoff. We tried two time and both times it crashed nose down Bang Head Bang Head Bang Head Bang Head.
I am using Emax 2812 motor with 1000mah battery 30amp esc and 6*4 prop. I am really looking for inputs  Help Me Help Me :help:on what could be wrong. I hope CG is not a problem since glide tests look normal. I am thinking to put a bigger prop but not sure if i can put a 8*4 prop on this motor.

Practice, and only Practice will make you perfect

appears to be too much of sweep, if it is, then CG will lie outside the wing towards the tail, difficult to measure (Not impossible), looks to be made in a gr8 hurry, patience is the key word,

if your Cg and other things are fine, most probably the problem is due to the follwing.
During the launh you have to keep the elevator a bit high (Reflex). generally this is a common mistake people do while flying wings.

You can use Flying wing CG calculator to find the exact CG. Check the link below, i tried to find out your cg by measuring image of your wing, use your actual dimensions to get accurate result.

Hi guys,

It was disaster, on Sunday I lost my wing, crashed on nose, damaged badly, beyond repair…so all I got is electric hardware which I think can be used in my next build….

But most importantly I lost it because of negligence….
We had few spectators on the airoli field, and was flying, got distracted because few people get in the pit, where all the models are kept, making noise, disturbing……

And my model was not too high and it came down on the nose….could not recover…….

I think it is responsibility of fellow modelers who are either seating or doing nothing to keep area clear……but…..at the end I lost my beautiful wing……heart breaking...

Few pictures of my completed and crashed wing……

Great eyes. augustinev sir it was indeed made in hurry but i have made it as per the dimensions mentioned in the video. I will cross check it.

Thanks for the input ashta sir. I will try once more using the trick.

You can use Flying wing CG calculator to find the exact CG. Check the link below, i tried to find out your cg by measuring image of your wing..
SLS can you tell me the value of CG that you calculate just to cross check if I am doing it right.
And finally ashJR7202, it is really sad that you crashed this wonderful bird.

If you click on the link, you can see the "CG distance" text box on right which for me came out to be 5.35cm (because i measured the image) also cg is displayed on the wing with a circle. The cg mentioned here is measured on the root cord (center line of the wing) from the leading edge.
