This plane was built for the sweepstakes going on as a Scratch build entry

WARNING--Might include a little bit too much theory and background info about me

All the dimensions were calculated using the basic concepts of flight that i learned in the course (Introduction to Aerospace Engg)
 >:D (I am a Chemical Engg B Tech student in IIT Bombay) >:D
I enjoy the hobby too much that i go sit in aero classes which is not even part of my syllabus

 I kept the wing span 88 cm's with an aspect ratio of 6 , Calculating the length of fuselage, area of horizontal and vertical stabilizers
 Will upload pics of calculation after writing on a big piece of paper NEATLY
I chose USA 35B as the airfoil because it was relatively simple to build because it was a flat bottom airfoil with a relatively good Cl value
Chose to run the whole thing with the following Power Plant

Motor-Initially i used a 1450 turnigy outrunner ,but then i switched to a bigger badder Turnigy 2217 16turn 1050kv 23A Outrunner for more power
Prop-10x6 GWS Style (Fairly Good and cheap as hell)
ESC -30 amps blue hk
Battery -1000 mah (Because this is all i had )
Servos-9 gram hk (What else to use )

I had bought a Huge (Freakishly Huge ) block of High Density Thermocol from Nahur Mumbai (1st photo this is just a section i cut from it,sorry no date proof on this one my friend holding the piece just for scale)
I decided to make the wing first
Cut everything (the base for the wing) out of 3mm coroplast (2nd pic)
I had already used a thick blue material i found on the road to make guide for hot wire cutter (3rd pic, i forgot to take pic before i hotwired the airfoil hence the thermocol marks on the guide )

I decided to use the same piece of blue hard plastic for the landing gears in case i decide to install landing gear

Building the fuselage after a long break (was busy with Acads and stuff 8-))

There is another fuse (Black one which i was building so that i could use it in a twin fuse plane It had a lot of inherent yaw and it never flew :banghead:)

Fuse building (pics 8,9,10,11)

Placing small pieces of styrofoam in the fuselage so that it gets some strength against twisting (pics 12,13,14,15)

After i put in all the servos and control surfaces i wrapped up the whole fuselage with masking tape so that i can paint the fuse

The plane almost complete, after a few flights (you can see the broken propellers ;D ;D  ) and before paintings on (actually i painted it very very late, was too lazy to paint )

Is it carrying a payload of 650gms? or the plane itself weighs 650 gms?..

In what dimensions do you get these High Density Thermocol ?

the plane weighs 450 grams without landing gear (but including batteries and everything else)
I could carry a weight of 650 grams attatched on the underside of the fuselage  :)

I got the High densitty thermocol in 1 m X 0.5 m X 0.5 m (the first pic just shows a slice i cut from it, you can see the arc's that the hotwire made on it while cutting)

Weight including payload (450+650)1100gm (38.80 oz) ,lets exclude landing gear

I know wing loading also requires some volumetric calculation.
By simple method, your wing loading comes to be 27.95 oz/sqft which seems to me a little more :-\
i have heard people fly upto 16 or a bit more.

I think, if you may provide enough thrust and the bird may fly even, but there might be challanges controlling..

You are defenitely right,

Contolling was a real big problem, Turns were so slow and hard with the payload in. (could not do much maneuvering just took off, made a circle and landed )
initially i tried max cargo with smaller motor then i upgraded the motor to give me a thrust of 1150 g+, i think i just beefed up the power systems  to get the plane airborne with the max payload .

I had covered the top surface of the wings with covering plastic that i bought from rcbazaar when i went all artistic on the plane (here are some close up pics of the plane after all the painting and the artistry) (pics 17,18,19,20)
Will upload the flight videos soon, appreciate the patience

nyc bird is it nose heavy ...i feel its heavy overall thts y it needs high speed to sustain flight !!!!....try reducing the cargo and re position it to get the plane balanced

Yeah this flight was a little bit too nose heavy . I have one more video which is much smoother ,but could not get it to upload in youtube ,
