RC India - Flying and racing with open minds !

Santhosh and I were discussing offline how to setup his new Multiplex Cularis glider.  This glider setup is interesting for multiple reasons.

1) The physical build itself has some challenges in terms of precise alignment requirements for some connections.

2) It has two separate servos for ailerons. It also has flaps which are also driven by separate servos.  This brings up a host of connection possibilities, radio programming possibilities and usage scenarios.

3) Due to the size and flying characteristics of the model, it is known to be a bit hard to slow down for landings.  Also, unless the flaps also play a role, these are known to be difficult to do rolls with (assuming someone wants to do that!).

This thread will discuss some of the possibilities of setting up the Cularis, especially some of the unusual setups that are possible, like "butterfly brakes".

I believe "butterfly brakes" refer to "fully raised position of both ailerons with both flaps fully lowered". This is supposed to significantly slow down the bird.  The last few seconds of the video you posted has the "butterfly brakes" in action.

Interesting thing is that the mixing required for this in the radio is natively supported on some radios (like Futaba 7c and above), and would require some "involved" programming on the DX7 that Santhosh has Smiley

Please let us know how you have made your connections into the 7 channel Spektrum receiver on your Cularis (including flaps). What is plugged into which channel ?

Butterfly brakes are also known as crow brakes, and here is how to set them up on the DX7.

http://www.rc-soar.com/spektrum/index.htm  (see the "Crow Mixing" part).

Looks like now you are getting into a situation where even a DX7 may not be enough of a radio Wink
