Title: SIMPLEST DELTA WING GLIDER
Post by: SuryaKK on July 17, 2020, 09:27:58 PM
Hello everyone.

I made a very simple delta wing with thermocol. I plan on converting it to an electric powered plane after a while. Playing with it as a chuck glider now in hopes of better understanding the dynamics of flight.

SPECIFICATIONS:
Wingspan: 24"
Root chord: 18"
Tip chord: 12"
Sweep: 6"
CoG: 4.42" from L.E
Actual center: 6.6" from L.E
Slot for prop: 8" * 2"
Wing area = 344 sq.in.
AUW: 113 grams (After using dead weight to get CoG on spot)
Wing loading = oz. / sq. ft.
Wing cubic loading = 1.1

After balancing the plane at the actual center and giving it a gentle launch, it tends to pitch up after gliding for a distance. Elevons positioned approximately parallel to the ground. Giving a slight camber to the elevons makes the plane track straight and true to the ground but speeds up.
The roll and yaw controls are fine.

Is it because of the empty slot that the plane is changing its behaviour mid-flight?

Should I balance the plane at the recommended CoG for optimal performance?
This site asks me to coincide the CoG and A.C : https://fwcg.3dzone.dk/ whereas this one https://www.ecalc.ch/wingdesigner.htm asks me to shift the balance point approximately 2 inches in front of the A.C (towards the L.E) . Which one should I follow? I've seen many YouTubers go with the first website and get positive results but I'm having troubles with the same.

Please advise.  ;D

Hi sir

are you trying to make it a 'ground effect fixed wing'?
i'm trying a similar build,will wait for the results of your maiden,best of luck for it  :thumbsup:

I'm just 19. No need to give me titles.
I'm not trying to make a plane which solely works on the principle of ground effect. I am just making a slow fly glider and will install electronics later on after some advise from the veterans here. I feel like the plane will just aggressively pitch up if I install electronics now. Let's wait for them to reply  ;D

@SuryaKK
@The RC Guy,

It’s quite easy to start with something like this:
