Hi Guys,

I was going to upgrade my easy star to a brushless..

Can anyone please recommend me a motor and esc ?

I was thinking of this motor - 2200kv Brushless Inrunner & i have a brushless 18 amp esc will that work with this motor and the battery i have is Turnigy 2650mAh 3S 20C Lipo Pack ?

Can anyone please help me out here..

cheers

I found my old post where I wanted to convert my easy star to a brushless setup... :giggle: :giggle:

Finally getting to it as time permitted.... ;D

Using a 2200kv brushless motor, 30amp turnigy esc, 9gm servos, 2200 turnigy 3s 20c battery..

Right now just soldered everything to its place..I guess will put on the motor tomorrow..Did some spray painting  :giggle:

Will get all the stuff in the bird by today..anybody's got a 6*4 prop & a prop. calculator..looking out for an excel made sheet or something that would easily calculate the prop. required..

Hi Atul,
as far as i have seen the easystar, i guess that there is no extra space to put a prop bigger then 6x4. if you want to use bigger prop then you have increase the height of motor mount from main fuse......
Fly high if you have good set of batteries.....!

Morning Sandeep,

yes you are perfectly right..I don't want to put in a bigger prop. I was just looking out for a prop calculator for other builds..

sahilkit

hey what kind of paint is it ? can you share what kind of equipment/setup have used !
Today might be a great and wonderful day. It depends on you.

sahilkit

no i was under the impression you had a proper spray painting setup like compressor etc.

thanks

atul_pg

ohh..no dude..I would love that maybe in the near future..In btwn that would be costly right ?

sahilkit

i don't know it might be, even i want to try it  :'( we should find a low cost solution   :help:

If its on e-bay for that cost then those guns would be rather cheap outside in the market...need to find out locally..

The upgrade is DONE.. ;D  ;D

I have successfully completed the brushless conversion..check out the pics..

thanks

This diwali weekend, after more than 10 hours of flying in 3 days the permax 400 on my easystar blew up both its brushes. So can you recommend me locally available brush less motor and ESC. I am also ready to cut the foam motor mount and put in a hand crafted mount. In the mean time i am hunting for a permax 400 motor so that i can have some flights this week end.

Sun like star. EasyStar is too excellent plane to mess up with. Get the Turnigy outrunner Atul has mentioned above. I used exactly the same setup to upgrade my Friend's Easy star and they fit so perfectly as if made for EasyStar.

Please stick to a similar size (not just in power but also dimension) motor instead of modifying the mount.d

i think you meant the inrunner Atul is using. doesn't look like its available locally :(
BTW santosh just said that he will give me permax 400 motor for free  :o

My intent was to covet you from  outwardly modifying the plane for whatever motor is available locally, instead have patience and get the appropriate motor (original Brushed/inrunner brushless) from Hobby King etc. Not many LHS Selling Inrunners anyway.

Its great that Santosh has offered you the motor. You can get 20-30A Brushed ESC from RcforAll if you have your ESC fried too.

Cheers.

Go with an 1800mah instead of 2200mah..

Atul, if you have upgraded to the Turnigy brushless Inrunner, 2200mAh would be better than 1800 - both CG and power consumption purpose.

SunLikeStar,
Better follow the EasyStar Fan page for more details before ordering. I could be wrong as I have used this setup for static test on my friends Easy*.

i am placing an order for
Motor: http://hobbycity.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5203
ESC: http://hobbycity.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=9483

which prop and shaft adapter should i take??

You are tack right on the motor. But people have reported that this gulping as much as 23AMP. So you better use a 35/40AMP ESC instead of 30AMP. I some how follow rule of having 1.5x larger current capacity ESC.

6x4 Master Airscrew/EMP Sports Prop would be apt. Dont go for GWS as they are no good for high speed (>1700kv) motors.

you would need a 3.2mm Grub Screw Prop adapter. Though the the shaft was exactly 3,2mm as on my digital caliper, I had to sand the prop a bit (by putting steel file on rotating shaft under power). So don't get paranoid if 3.2mm prop adapter doesn't fit first.

Get some 30/35mm Heat shrink and cover the the motor with that before gluing the motor into the Foam Motor mount in the Easy Star. It giver better grip and you can easily remove motor, if either of the motor or Easy* is destroyed.

Ujjwana - 1800 mah would be perfect fr the CG and will fit in the easy star cockpit.

I agree with the prop adapter.. You can get it locally as well..

I found the 30amp esc to be sufficient .. since its not in stock go fr 40amp.

Sunlike star - If you read some reviews below the motor specs you will get a clear idea of what to buy. Make sure you secure the motor properly on the Ez *

We will catch up soon anyways..

Thanks to Ujjwaana and Atul, my first easystar brush-less conversion went pretty well.
Now that my new EZ is on its way home, I am thinking about putting an outrunner to it.
The thing is I want this one to be a light weight slow flyer which can haul a sony cyber shot. My current does the job, but gets quit heavy and fast. I am thinking about putting and <50 gram ourunner saving me around 60 grams. Also with a small outrunner i can replace my heavy 30A ESC with a smaller one saving me some more. Plus i am willing to put a custom motor mount to facilitate a 7 inch prop.
Any recommendations for the motor?
