Title: Using ailerons as Flaps
Post by: aviator on April 02, 2012, 12:52:36 AM
Hi,

I am out on my skysurfer and looking for settings of ailerons to be used as flaps while landing.
Have google a lot and it says setting of GYR channel for the same.
M unable to find it on my FLYSKY TH9X. :headscratch:
Can someone please help or indicate a link.
Thanks!

dont complicate the setup.. u absolutely dont require flaps for that plane...

flaps are required for three things
(a) to land slow
(b) to come in off a slightly steep approach (Obstacle clearence on the approach path)
(c) Land with higher throttle setting so that when going around off a baulked approach, engine acceleration time is not the critical factor

in a glider, instead of a flap you will require a crow (Kinda inverted flaps) because (a) a glider comes in shallow (b) floats for a long time and does not  touch down easily.

conversely, you are better off flying it stock

Thx rcpilotacro.
Skysurfer is fun but landing it really needs some practice...
The belly of my 4-5 flights old skysurfer is already scrached (now, i have taped it!)
Tried catching it by hand but cudn't succeed in more than 1 occasion.
So was looking at something that would bring it down slow and nice.

Hi, if you have Dx6i or similar radio just use mixing and you can use flaperon...i.e alirone + flaps. I am using it in my piper cub. Just add little elevator with flaps on.

I have tried using Ailerons as Flaps on my Skysurfer and it always pitched down when Flaps were operated. I then tried using Ailerons as Spoilerons and it worked great. You need to add a little bit of down elevator to prevent the flaring up.

You really don't need flaps/spoilers for skysurfer when there's little bit of wind (landing against wind). However, if it's calm, spoilerons does help a lot. Regarding catching while landing, don't do it unless you can slow down the plane really slow. Else, you'll be causing more damage to the plane due to impact while sudden stopping than the damage due to some scratches in the belly due to landing on the ground.

Sorry I'm using Sanwa 6G. If there's setting for using Ailerons as Flaps in your transmitter, then try assigning negative value to change the direction of Flaps to go up instead of going down. That's how it's done on my Tx.

Ok.. heres the thing i m using on my FS9tx :

My 6Ch Receiver is setup as follows:

Ch1 - Aileron 1
Ch2 - Elevator
Ch3 - ESC (throttle)
Ch4 - Rudder
Ch5 - empty (GYR or gear channel on Tx)
Ch6 - Aileron 2 (FLP or flaps channel on Tx)

Assign Ch5 to the Throttle Hold switch in the AUX CH submenu. This allows the Throttle Hold switch to operate all of the logic associated with GYR or the gear channel (Ch 5). You can also place your beeper or plane locator on Ch 5 on your receiver.

Make sure the Flaperon submenu is not being used, and it is set to INH (inhibited) and not ACT (active).

The following mixes are used:

MIX 1 (dual aileron mix)
STATE ACT
MASTER AIL
SLAVE FLP
OFFSET 000
UPRATE 100
DNRATE 100
SW ON

MIX 2 (Sets Aileron 1 to fully deployed flaperon position w/ ID2 input)
STATE ACT
MASTER GYR
SLAVE AIL
OFFSET 000
UPRATE 000
DNRATE 100
SW ID2

MIX 3 (Sets Aileron 2 to fully deployed flaperon position w/ ID2 input)
STATE ACT
MASTER GYR
SLAVE FLP
OFFSET 000
UPRATE 000
DNRATE -100
SW ID2

MIX 4 (Sets Aileron 1 to half deployed flaperon position w/ ID1 input)
STATE ACT
MASTER GYR
SLAVE AIL
OFFSET 000
UPRATE 000
DNRATE 50
SW ID1

MIX 5 (Sets Aileron 2 to half deployed flaperon position w/ ID1 input)
STATE ACT
MASTER GYR
SLAVE FLP
OFFSET 000
UPRATE 000
DNRATE -50
SW ID1

MIX 6 (Adds some up-elevator with ID1)
STATE ACT
MASTER GYR
SLAVE ELE
SW ID1
Tuned to: L @35%

MIX 7 (Adds more up-elevator with ID2)
STATE ACT
MASTER GYR
SLAVE ELE
SW ID2
Tuned to: L @15%

any indication wat should be done to change it to spoilerons???

Sorry aviator. Without manual, it doesn't make much sense to me. I'm sure some other flysky users would be of more help in this regard.
