Hi everyone,
This Dreamliner is not a Boeing, it’s a member’s handle.

Last month Dreamliner wrote to me asking if I could make a balsa kit for a wing, as he had ruined his while building a Sig Starlite 36” park flyer.

Now that I’m free (having filed my tax return on the last day!), decided to complete what I started a few weeks ago.

The original is laser cut, so it has a lot of holes!
Impossible to duplicate manually.
So had to adopt a method that would be strong enough while being light enough.
The original 36” electric power model is supposed to be only 120gms!

Here’s a pic of the 25 parts of the right wing

@dreamliner,
You have 3 options
1. I send you the parts and you do the 200+ glue joints and covering. Too delicate for Monokote.
2. I build it and you cover.
3. I complete it with tissue and dope finish.

Let me know.
Regards

Queries from dreamliner and my responses.

1. Can this model be converted to rubber powered considering the light weight.  If yes, then prop has to be crafted or it can be purchased online.
Ans: I don’t have the necessary experience to give a final answer. Seems prima facie possible. But it also depends on whether you have Tan Super Sport rubber. Which size? How much?
If this is your first attempt at rubber power, you should start with a small model designed for rubber, instead of converting one designed for elec power. Don’t you have the necessary electronics?
Also, are you thinking RC or Free Flight? These are totally different!
If Free Flight, please seek advice from Saikat sir and Glidiator sir.

2. If each rib is single piece then I can try myself to assemble and cover.  But it looks like ieach rib is a two piece unit.  If it is two piece then may I request to assemble the wing and I will cover.  Also, will it be safe to ship an assembled wing?
Ans: Because of the delicate parts, I would rather assemble it myself, unless you are experienced enough to tackle it. Will have to pack in a thermocol frame with foam lining and cardboard outer.
What covering do you propose?

Await specific replies to the underlined queries.
Regards

Thank you Iyer Sir,   I would like this model to be covered in tissue by myself in order to have first hand experience on tissue covering utilising the tips shared by you.

Thank you again.

Sorry as I missed your questions.  I am planning for free flight, preferably rubber powered if sourcing suitable prop is feasible.  Otherwise, it will be a free flight electric.  I do not have any tan rubber or electronics as of now.
