Hello all, the Talon had arrived few weeks back and i was stuck up with some work, ill start putting the airframe together this week. and lots of mods in this build!! looking for flight time of more than an hour. all the items used in this build are listed below!! first thanks rcbazaar for the support, they cleared most of the doubts i had, and a really big thanks to sooraj for really valuable advices!! will upload pics soon!!

the battery used in this is the avionic tx battery(waiting for stock)(will be doing initial flights with other batteries)!! the reason is very simple compensating C rating for current and that good for the same weight i could fit in more Mah batteries, the batteries will be opened up and soldered together as 6s packs!!

about the radio, using a normal 100mw radio the rcb7x and moding it with a 2W booster and adding a directional antenna and using my head as head tracker  Wink Wink (directional antenna for fpv, can get to know the approximate direction of plane when the video clarity is best @ a perticular direction ) i was planning to use something like diversity, using a buddybox with two receivers(still doing some testing for this setup!!), this not to extend the range but to get the full assured range!!

the basic for a long flight here is the motor prop comination, the motor generates 1kg thrust from 4.7 amps @ 6s planning to use 11amps battery for the long flight and 1kg thrust is not required, the thrust required is around 750-900gms, calculating actual flight time from 75% of battery @ 1 kg thrust - 106 mins (1hour 46mins) !! Grin Grin Shocked Shocked  i guess enough  Shocked !!

like every build i do i got a problem here too- the take off as iam using 15inch prop, wait did i tell 15inch, YES!! , it would be nice if someone could put some idea into my brain for that!!

Items:-

1. X-UAV Talon- rcbazaar.com
2.Talon wing extension from 1710mm to 2000mm!!
3. radio-RCB7x-rcbazaar.com
4. booster for the radio(2W)- ebay.com
5. motor - multistar 4010-375 kv-hobbyking.com.
6. flight controller- APM 2.5(GPS,telemetry,minimOSD)- edallhobby.com
7. prop- 15x5 DJI prop(not sourced yet)
8. FPV system- 2w  Violent Violent tx and diversity receiver and normal sony camera- edallhobby.com
9. ESC- afro esc- hobbyking.com.
10.Video recorder camera- Turnigy HD camera- rcproduct.in, 808 HD camera ebay.com.
11.GPS tracker(two no's for assurance )- ebay.in.
12.antenna- not yet decided!!

This will be a really slow build and maiden because caught up with college, out of stock symbols and ebay.com shipping!!

Pics soon!!

regards,
JK

on the battery:-

using 10 number of 8c 2200mah 3s batteries(tx batteries), will remove the extra wires and solder two packs together to get 6s 2200mah 8c and connect 5 of those in parallel to get 6s 11000mah 8c and the max. current draw is 88amps which really more than my motors max. current draw- 20amps!!

If you are making up a pack of 11Ah, you can further decrease the C rating of each pack, 2C transmitter packs will decrease wait of battery pack further .

Nice to see a Talon. The one I got from FPVModel (with wing extension) is lying in the box box still. I have seen a club flyer maidening the plane. It took a little longer to be fully airborne.

Better put the full fledge landing gear Mod. Use Panasonic Li-ion battery pack (6S/4P) which are 57% lighter than Lipo and using a High Cell count , your amp draw would be max 6-8 amp and flying time of over 2 hours with an efficient motor like Hyperion/Tiger/OS etc.

Dont use 2.4Ghz Booster. 2 Watt is likek too much EMI on the ground station. Move to LRS - if you are tight on budget, buy the DTF UHF/Hawkeye OpenLRS Combo which comes at $150 for 1 Watt Tx and 2 Rx.

If you move to LRS, dont waste tome on 5.8G Video System. Move to 1.2G Video which give much better range and multipath/static free video without costly antenna or tracker.

where you fly in Bangalore ?

So i almost dropped the idea of using any(panasonic, sony, samsung, ultrafire) 18650 li-ion batteries, after looking at all the fake ones in the market, if only someone could point out where to get authentic ones!!

Hi, I wonder if you could tell me who the manufacturer is please?. It certainly looks good and it flies and lands rather well. Obviously a miniature copy of the US drones, so it's certainly a well known airframe design. It's certainly one very big chunk of foam and with that beefy motor and large prop it should be able to carry a good array of FPV equipment without having to shoehorn it all in.

My only concern would be my wife, she's becoming somewhat irate at the larger planes I've been buying. Not so much the cost, more the space they take up in our home. So far 3 rooms and counting. This one may actually confirm my demise. Smiley  Good luck with the build guys.   Stu

Thank you for the link JK. I would definitely go for the big beast. I prefer a solid aircraft to a twitchy and lighter model. I was impressed with the stall, no wing drop, just a predictable nose over, very nice. HobbyKing have a very similar model but it's price plus the freight even though it's stored in Australia, puts it out of my reach for a while. I'll definitely check out RCproduct, I haven't come across them in my travels. I hear some companies are offering free freight if the item is over $200. Who knows, I may get lucky especially if a dealer has stock he couldn't move before Christmas.

Good luck with your build and happy flying,   ...   Stu

Sorry Gusty, I didn't scroll far enough up to see your post. I see they even have the same name. One other thing I spotted on HK. They've stolen the Penguin. They pestered the Aussie agent for the plane and were sending emails on a daily basis, offering him a fair amount of money to sneak them as many as he could handle. Obviously he told them the same as The US agents. I have the original Penguin still in it's box, an excellent flyer and plenty of room for FPV gear. I'd better shut up, I'm off topic, sorry guys.   Thanks Gusty,    ...   Stu
