Thanks Augustinev. Thanks for your compliments. The battery is way too forward to balance the CG. Done purposely. Be assured this is not bought as kit or RTF.  Grin It is made by hand from SCRATCH. Attached is the plan for the same. I have put the skids in the VORTEX arrangement, though not sure how would it behave in the air. Just hoping it might add some difference. Smiley

Thanks Ashish. Not to worry on the motor mount. I am pretty sure it is strong enough to support the model.  Smiley Will try to see you this sunday to maiden her. Please get your Camera.

Cheers !!!

Hi Atul,

Thank for the compliments.

Are you referring to the color tape ?? If so, its vinyl tape red color and yellow color, commonly available with radium sticker shops.
The other thing is the wing skids available from HK.

Thanks Rohit.
Applying the decals is easy... just stick from one end and level it out evenly to the other end.. That does the job, no rocket science. Smiley

Hi Saurabh,

Very impressed with the neat work.

I was just going to search for this plan of YAK 54  or extra 300 to be built in foam.

If you would mind ,i too want to build the same foamy model. Can you further help me on this

I will be arranging for the foam & also will enlarge the drawing on a A3 SIZE paper.

Can you suggest me the step wise process to build this model. This would be my first EP model in foam.

Looking for your Video

regards
peter

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your compliments.

I have attached the plan in one of my earlier posts. I am attaching the same with this post as well.

Please let me know what help you are seeking. I would be glad to help you. Smiley

Here are the logical steps that I followed:

1.) Take the prints on A4 sheets (16 pages in all)
2.) Stick the sheets together to make the plan. (Used Scotch Magic Tape)
3.)Once the plan is ready, cut the pieces from the plan (like the fuselage, wings H.Stab etc.)
4.) Stick the cut pieces to the foam (using magic tape) and cut the foam into shape.
5.) Once the foam is cut, you are ready for the build.
6.) Assemble the foam and glue it together with Foam safe Glue. (You can even use Hot Glue, but it adds weight)
7.) Now you need to taper the edges (@ 45 deg) of the surface areas to which the control areas will stick. Use a medium grit sandpaper to do that.
8.) Also taper the edges of the ailerons, ele, and rudder that will stick to the surface areas.
9.) Then you can stick the control areas to the surface areas. (I used the Fibre tape and Hinge. You can see in the pics)
10.) Once this is done, your model is ready for electronics.
11.) Mount the "Motor Mount" first. I used Hot Glue to stick the mount to the fuselage and then screwed in the motor mount using 1.5 inch long machine screws. Install the motor.
12.) Now install the servos. I used Hot Glue again to stick the servos to the wings.
13.) Install the Control horns to the control areas. (Again, I used Hot glue to reinforce)
14.) Install the Push rods (Here I used Cycle Spokes, though they are a bit heavy but much easy to install than Carbon rods)
15.) Install the Receiver and set the servos to neutral.
16.) Then connect the push rods to the servos using 2mm "pushrod connectors".
17.) Install the decals.
18.) Dry fit the battery and check the CG.
19.) Install the battery as it would set the CG to the desired position.
20.) Your model is ready to fly.

All this sounds easy, but takes a lot of time Smiley
All the best... Thumbs Up

Cheers !!!

RC India - Flying and racing with open minds !

Wonder why it was sent straight up in the first place ?  Did the motor cut off ? Was any check done of the power system in terms of amps drawn ?

Seeing the people involved, I am pretty sure all these have been verified, still had to ask Smiley

Yak is a very forgiving plane..I'd never blame its design in perticular. If it were me, i'd rather focus on what i did i do with it.

Practice, and only Practice will make you perfect

+ to that,

Foamie especially requires little control power to fly, because of which it tends to be snappy, so maiden is always is with very little throws and slowly increase it and take it from there, i am not saying that's what has gone wrong here, it could have been bad motor to radio lock out to a bird strike.

Flat-foamies (with no airfoil) DO NOT produce any lift !
U need some motor power (thrust) for forward motion in order to get it going in flight (irrespective of airfoil ).

This is not totally true. Flat-foamies at zero angle of attack doesnt produce lift. But at a given angle of attack, they do.
Also some of the flat fomies does have the wing attached at a certain angle to the horizontal plane.

Foamybuilder, both U & I are correct...

But, i m still wondering why U said the above quote  Head Scratching

In general any airplane, be it powered/non-powered etc. requires airflow over the wing surface so that it produces lift  for flight to happen & for that, thrust should be > drag and lift > gravity Clap  .This is when the aircraft has good enough forward motion...achieved with the help of a power plant(engine+prop)/source/been towed (non-powered a/c) by another power-plant or airplane.

"cleared for takeoff"

agustinev, no doubt all forces acting on an airplane have to be balanced in order to achieve flight...I have tried to explain someone here in very simple terms what is needed for an a/p to takeoff/fly. Coz someone here said and i quote.."we should never use motor power for take off, we should let wings do its job"...and the discussion was limited to an incident in which somebody crashed his new RC plane just after take off i guess, for reasons unknown. None of us was interested in being too technical about it (there was no need to be).
Plz care to go thru this thread and shed some light on the above mentioned quote if you dnt mind. Again... here we are talking about RC's only Smiley

chao.

@vector
I think I should have quoted  "we should never use motor power ONLY for take off". What I meant was when we hand lauch, we should not launch it at an angle near to high alpha, where wings wont be producing lift, only motor thrust will be just dragging it in that direction. If it is a maiden flight, and if motor doesnt have enough thrust, and we launch at that angle it will b a disaster.

"cleared for takeoff"

Well said foamybuilder, i was expecting that.
It is always a good idea to launch in a straight line creating better airflow over wings=better control. Unless, we are skilled enough and the plane has enough power to pull itself out of an unwanted situation (higher angle of attack during launch and less airspeed resulting in a power-on stall....ouch!!).
As you may know many 3d people simply like to release them off their fingers and let motor do its job... and i love to do it too >Cheesy

cheers.
