Title: Zippy LiPo battery cell shows 1.5v
Post by: dileepbalan on June 01, 2013, 11:40:52 AM
I was keeping Zippy Lipo battery 3 cell (11.1V) 2200mah, in "Lipo Storage" mode for 1.5 years. Today I noticed that one cell shows 1.5v only. When I connected to the charger, detects the battery as "2SER".  :(

Voltage Status shows...
No.1 = 3.4v
No.2 = 3.7v
No.3 = 1.48v

Can I use this battery for further charging in Lipo Balance mode 11.1v(3S)?

Regards,
Dileep

Just charge it using NIMH option on charger and remove once the charger shows 9.2volts also remove bal plug . Then move back to lipo bal charge mode

Sir be careful when charging the Lipo in NiMh mode...always be with it and monitor the battery's tempereate...if it becomes hot then remove it ASAP....
I lost one 2200 3S when charging it in NiMh mode -boom - burst....
The middle cell was showing 1.3V ...

Thanks Santhosh and Hellyflyer,

I have connected in NiMH mode only for 2 min. Now the cell showing 3.0V. Charger detected as "3SER".
Started charging in LiPo Balance mode with 0.5A.

Just charge the single cell showing 1.5 volts with a normal mobile nokia charger output with correct polarity through the balance connector and bring it to more than 3 volts then your Lipo charger will see all cells. Then you can use your Lipo charger to get it to full charge voltage. If the Lipo cell retains the voltage after that you are lucky.

If it has been below 3 volts for a long time the cell would have deteriorated beyond its NIB condition and this cell will frequently loose its voltage in some cases and the pack will become very unbalanced very often.
