Title: A Helicopter motor for a plane!
Post by: Herobrine on December 24, 2013, 09:28:38 PM
The motor of my "Sky eagle" RC plane got wrecked in a crash  :'( :'( :'( and so I and a friend use an old motor we found in an old helicopter he had, and with a bit of soldering and tons of other changes, it worked!  :D :D It is terribly nose-heavy though, but that wont be to difficult to fix. Hope to get it airborne soon!  ;D

The motor which you modified is a brushed motor. It gives very good thrust, if you use a gear box for the propeller.

Gearbox for the propeller? Can you please elaborate? Sorry, I am new to RC.  :salute:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gear (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gear)

gears allow you to change torgue and rpm ratio...while keeping the energy same...
you're running it direct drive at the moment which means the prop is mounted directly to shaft. Putting a gearbox in between will help altering the speed/torque of the motor...

This is from a mechanics point of view...I cannot comment much about the aeromodelling part ...will leave it to seniors but nevertheless, useful to know...

in just 400Rs you would have received a new motor for this model. I am not sure if the motor you installed will be able to work! even if it will make it fly for a while, a single crash may break the rest of the body of the plane.
