Man TG, you have stole my Thunder now. Only yesterday I had modified two my gear worn out 8 gms servos with 6mm coreless into gear drive micro power systems using the gears salvaged from servo and was planning to post it. I will post photographs in the evening.

This has fantastic thrust for a micro RC.

Dear TG,

I am posting photographs of the geared power system driving a 3030 GWS props, fabricated out of the recovered 6mm coreless motor along with pinion and gears from a gear damaged 8 gms servos.

I am also posting photographs of a gear and prop arrangement for a 4mm coreless which I am waiting for.

Video link of the attempted micro alula being tried is also posted under. Thanks for watching.

Thanks a lot for the pictures. Can you post a picture that gives a size reference to the prop shafts and gears? Also what is the source for the prop shaft and gears. The servo that I've taken apart does not have a shaft long enough to mount the propellor on. Will post pictures once I have some thing done. Thanks again.

The Black Propeller is GWS 3030 i.e. tip to tip it is 3" long. The motor is 6mm dia coreless motor, which is 17mm long. Which can give you rough idea of the remaining dimensions. The Pinion of the gear drive is from same servo, the gear is also from the same servo. The shaft is 1.5mm dia scavenged from defective CD players components. you can use 1mm also if you are using the gear with 1mm hole. The bronze sleeve which is forming the bearing is also scavenged parts of defective electronic devices.

The grey propeller for the 4mm coreless is GWS 2510 which is 2.5" tip to tip, with 1mm shaft scavenged from defective coreless motors.

This is what i call a true Engineering + Mechanical  practice....
Well done....i think you should now start collecting old and damaged servos and start selling new geared drive...\

Thanks Sandeep

To add further The spacer between the bronze sleeve of the shaft and motor has been carved out of 2mm balsa sheets with depression for motor and the sleeve.

Sir,is there any reason why the prop on the left is stopping before the prop on the left?

I guess it is because of different gearing.

But great job there.Sounds great. Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap Salute Salute Salute Bow Bow

Thanks Gandhar,

No!  it is not because of different gearing both the props are identical gear setup. See the micro gear props were an absolute success but the plane Alula was a total flop not because of bad build or design but due to reasons enumerated below. It was planned for Yaw control (rudder) by differential thrust using twin props.

The COB used is an 3.5 Channel IR receiver of a Model art Heli (Crashed). it has three channel and throttle, two channel for the main motor mixed with throttle and one channel for the pitch control (elevator) motor.

After the build, I did not realize that the COB had a built in Gyro fuctionality and the COB was mounted in a fashion that the stabilisation axis was along the Pitch axis , and where as it was required to be along the yaw axis. Therefore whenever it was pitching up or down it use to correct it self towards left or right due to diffrential thrust and it used to spin into a crash. I did not realize the existance of gyro and was constantly trying to trim it and adjusting CG. Ultimately the wings broke. I thought my design of Alula was not correct and the model was decomissioned.

Only when I was recording the Video for the post I realised the existance of the Gyro function. Now I am planing to build a Micro bicopter if I get a counter rotating Micro Props or just a plane with differential thrust rudder and pitch control.

Ane either way,it would not have been very effective outdoors. If you use a normal aerial radio,it should fly beautifully.
