Title: Funjet Brushless Motor choice.
Post by: gauravag on December 25, 2011, 06:29:01 PM
Guys,
Would like to take suggestions on what would be the best choice for a Brushless motor for a Multiplex Funjet.

It seems like the motor needs to be mounted inside the motor mount, thus a heli style motor is needed ?

Please offer suggestions !
Thanks to all,
Gaurav

I was thinking of D2826 - 2200kv http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=12919
But it would not mount inside the fuse nd would stick out.
Perhaps one of these would be better ?

Gaurav, hope you are looking out for your own Funjet, to be flown for speed, at less: 2200mAh/3S (no fancy 4S LiPo).

Go for a 450 Size Heli Motor with a 3400-3800KV range spinning 4.5x4.5 or 4.75x4.5 prop.

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__9257__Turnigy_Typhoon_450H_2218H_Heli_Motor_3450kv_450_class_.html

If you need a bit of easy flyer, go with the 2700kv Motor with 6x4 prop. Put 3S and fly relaxed. Put a 4S and get the adrenalin rush!

http://www.rcdhamaka.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=100_93&products_id=649

All these motors fits perfectly on the mount, with adequate CG with 2200mAh/3S and 1800mAH/4S LiPo without any ballast.
Upgrade to metal motor mount, if you plan to keep the Plane for long, which cost $15+shipping. I can send you my "tough" build pics if you have still not put together the model

I Put EMAX GT2215 3800KV by RCD , with 2200mah  3S and 4.75x4.75 prop. for Yash's Funjet. And he is easily blasting it for 6 to 7 mins with throttle stick hardly coming down. I have put a 60amps hobbywing esc on it.

And this is one of the most popular setup for moderate Funjet flyers even in Germany, I found.

And forgot to tell this is Tough built Ujjwaana way + belly coated with fiber glass

Thanks guys !
Ujjwal, Yes i am building one for myself. Plan to use a 2200/3S only ( since I have many from my electric helis )
I haven't put together my model yet - Just getting my shopping list ready, so do send me your tough build pictures.

I already have the Turnigy Typhoon motor Isn't that like 4000kv and make the plane ridiculously fast ? I haven't ever seen this model fly,  so not sure if it could handle that hot motor. Its like 650Watts !!!
Where did you get the metal mount from ? Would love to add in any upgrades to make it strong.

Thanks Santosh and Akshay for your valuable replies too.

-Gaurav

I can pledge by Yash's Funjet setup, nicely fast.

Check these links for Mounts,

And cheapest is here

Ujjwaana is on X-Mas vacations, so I would try to post some pics of  reinforcement as advised by Ujjwaana.

Thanks Akshayb,
The reinforcement pictures would help greatly.

Still you sure the Funjet will not be un-flyable-ly fast with the 4000kv Typhoon motor ?

The EMAX GT2215 3800KV by RCD , with 2200mah  3S and 4.75x4.75 prop set up is at least as fast as heli motors and this motor weighs less than heli motors = less wing loading = more thrust = more fly time etc etc.

Trying for pics to reach you
