Greetings everyone, just like everyone else, I was bored in quarantine and decided to make my own "EDF" with the parts lying around in my house.

Specifications:
EDF outer diameter: 120 mm
Propeller diameter: 5 inches
Blade count: 3
BLDC motor: A2212 6T 2200KV outrunner
ESC: General 30 Amperes
Battery: 1500 mAh 3S 30C
AUW: 120 grams

I would like to know if this is a safe setup. Am I fine running it off of a 30C discharge rate battery or will I end up frying my motor or worse, both my battery and motor? I don't plan on using this as an engine for any of my builds. Just made this for experimental purposes.

Thank you,
Surya Krishnakumar

The motor,ESC and prop combination are fine, I would say don't go full power for long duration! Keep a look for anything usual, especially monitor the heat on the motor, ESC and lipo!

Also what material is it made of? Cause if it's flimsy then there is high chance your duct would just break apart! Which won't be a pretty sight to see !

Also there is alot of gap between your blade tip and duct, try reducing the gap if you can.

You can learn more from this video as well

@Mohammed Naveed
The motor doesn't heat up more than 40 degree Celcius I believe. The ESC also doesn't get hot.
The duct is made out of strong cardboard sheets. (dual layered)
I reckon the gap is about 4 mm.
Thank you for the suggestion, I will look into it. Cheesy

*UPDATE*
I upgraded the boring looking EDF into an "electric jet"  Giggle
This project is just for fun so there's no need to get very technical about it. I just needed to know if it was safe to run it.

Enjoy the video though.  Grin
