Post by: akky on February 09, 2011, 07:47:50 PM
HI I EVERYONE HAD BOUGHT THIS ESC..
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6458
now the problem that ia m facing with this is that after giving the full throttle the speed of the motor starts decreasing and
eventually the motor stops working and starts the beep  ...i have programmed it to default to factory settings and still its the same...I tried adjusting the endpoint of the throttle channel also but still it did the same thing ....i have used most of the brands of programmable esc's but its the first time i went for hk one and  i am facing this irritating problem...plz help  :help: :help:

I HAD EVEN TRIED IT WITH THE TESTOR STILL THE SAME PROBLEM :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Is it doing this with a 2S battery?

Ok. the behavior you are describing is generally for signal loss cutoff or low voltage cutoff.

but the batteries are full charged and even tried adjusting the end point of the throttle channel

Is the esc getting hot, this could also be a case of thermal cutoff.

another bad news
A Wretched Mouse Ate up the Covering my Glider's wing....... :(  :banghead: :banghead:  >:( >:( >:( >:(

oh no, sorry to hear that!
repair your glider, catch the mouse, tape it on the glider and take it for a ride. after that release is back in your house so that he can tell his buddies not to mess with you.
I hope there is not much damage.
About the ESC, i'm not sure what is happening. Best i can suggest is try a different motor and then try a different esc :(

the main  problem is with the esc...it behaves same with every motor..its showing me bloody attitude

best option-
CHANGE THE ESC ;D ;) >:D

are you using the programming card or the tx?

Title: Re: NEED HELP..."ESC & MOTOR PROBLEM "

I am not an expart but have some observation.

The ESC is overloaded or undervoltage protection is activated surely diagonshed by the beep code.  Check without prop and then without motor.
Overload
If the beep code is like overload, first check without prop. Please check the motor and Prop combination and the mechanical load draw at that RPM from Motor Characteristic curve. The load will give you the idea about the current and you can get the ESC Instantaneous current during full throttle. If require, you have to replace the prop with suitable one.
Undervoltage
Please check the connectors and the main power cord soldered joint to ESC. The high current may drop the voltage and the ESC may sense low voltage and initiate protection.

Please post the ESC manual and your beep code sequence for our knowledge. And also the trouble shoot details.

Hope quick recovery of your ESC.

its not getting overloaded nor its under-voltage...i guess something's gone fishy  in this hk stuff

hi Akky,
If you have bought this ESC recently contact HK I think they have some warranty policy.

Hi Akky,
I think :headscratch:, you are senior Akshay. :salute:
ESC bought in Oct 2010, Try to get warranty claim on this. I presume there's no harm in doing so.

Akky,
Just try the following
1) reset the ESC to factory default
2) run at 50% of load for 2-3 min
See if you observe the same symptoms.
also is the motor or ESC or battery getting hot?

Title: Re: NEED HELP..."ESC & MOTOR PROBLEM "
Post by: PankajC on February 09, 2011, 10:09:49 PM
Also when you increase the throttle, are increasing gradually or abruptly? If the second option, then try to change the ESC timing and observe

Title: Re: NEED HELP..."ESC & MOTOR PROBLEM "
Post by: akky on February 09, 2011, 10:12:43 PM
done everything that people have suggested above....it runs perfect but as it reaches the end...it slows and stops gradually and yes nothing it getting hot

Title: Re: NEED HELP..."ESC & MOTOR PROBLEM "
Post by: SunLikeStar on February 09, 2011, 10:24:23 PM
so lets get this straight, everything is fine until you start throttling up, and when you reach full throttle the motor slows down and starts beeping.
what happens if you keep the throttle at say 50% or 70% constant?

Title: Re: NEED HELP..."ESC & MOTOR PROBLEM "
Post by: KALYANPRODHAN on February 09, 2011, 10:31:47 PM
And what if you disconnect Motor and increase the throttle to full, slowly ?

Title: Re: NEED HELP..."ESC & MOTOR PROBLEM "
Post by: akky on February 09, 2011, 10:34:47 PM
it works ok

Title: Re: NEED HELP..."ESC & MOTOR PROBLEM "
Post by: akky on February 09, 2011, 10:35:46 PM
kalyan sir the beep comes from the motor and not esc...whats the use of esc without the motor

Title: Re: NEED HELP..."ESC & MOTOR PROBLEM "
Post by: KALYANPRODHAN on February 09, 2011, 10:43:01 PM
Oh, then how we can measure the throttle stop position when motor stall signal generated from ESC without loading by the motor ?

Title: Re: NEED HELP..."ESC & MOTOR PROBLEM "
Post by: SunLikeStar on February 09, 2011, 10:46:19 PM
This might sound weird but to me this looks like a loss of signal shutdown. may be the esc is running on 16 khz and causing enough interference to trip the ESC's signal loss shutdown. Have you restored factory defaults on it, if not do it, almost all ESC have switching set on 8 khz by default.

yes i did everything..... :banghead: :banghead:

Title: Re: NEED HELP..."ESC & MOTOR PROBLEM "
Post by: SunLikeStar on February 09, 2011, 11:30:22 PM
ok, do this.. use a 3s battery, set the throttle trim to zero, set throttle to minimum, connect battery to the esc and try throttling up slowly.

Title: Re: NEED HELP..."ESC & MOTOR PROBLEM "
Post by: akky on February 09, 2011, 11:32:53 PM
mannn i have already done that..........

comming to final CONCLUSION-----ESC IS SHOWING ATTITUDE....

Title: Re: NEED HELP..."ESC & MOTOR PROBLEM "
Post by: SunLikeStar on February 09, 2011, 11:38:53 PM
ok then trash it...... to my address >:D

Title: Re: NEED HELP..."ESC & MOTOR PROBLEM "
Post by: SunLikeStar on February 09, 2011, 11:42:26 PM
but before you do that make sure you have tried reversing the throttle channel, tried it with a higher C battery like atleast 1800 mAh and finally you have tried setting it on nimh mode.

I recently brought a new motor ESC and battery from HK for my boat
Motor: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8593
ESC: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=15132
Battery: 3S 5000mah li-po
This set up has an External BEC to power receiver.
I am facing with a peculiar problem
1)   When I connect the ESC to the Battery, with throttle in zero position the Motor gives the arming beep and then continuously starts beeping.
2)   Here If I increase the throttle a little the beeping stops.
3)   The motor does not start till 40% throttle, after this the motor starts.
4)   At maximum throttle I do not think the motor is with max RPM.

As suggested by Ashish I tried the motor with another ESC 30amp the motor worked fine although RPM peak still not reached( understandable due to low amp ESC)

Does the ESC require calibration?
Hope there is no irreparable problem with the ESC

Looking forward to advise on this.

Shreekant

Looks like your throttle trim is set too low and/or the end point/ATR  - on the low throttle side - is too high.

Title: Re: NEED HELP..."ESC & MOTOR PROBLEM "
Post by: foamybuilder on May 23, 2011, 05:21:04 PM
If its not because of trim, throttle range is out of sink.

move the stick to full throttle
connect the battery
after it goes to prog mode, check for two continuous beeps then move the stick to zero throttle.
you can check the esc manual to program for throttle range

The throttle trim is at the centre

Title: Re: NEED HELP..."ESC & MOTOR PROBLEM "
Post by: foamybuilder on May 23, 2011, 06:14:35 PM
throttle trim should be at the lowest , not at the centre

Title: NEED HELP..."ESC no Beep
Post by: VinayakR on July 17, 2011, 12:42:33 AM
Hello all,

Yesterday receive "Hobbyking SS Series 18-20A ESC "http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6457 (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6457).

It's not working properly.

When I connect it with battery it does not give any Beep sound. (tried with both 2cell and 3cell), and no motor responce  :banghead:

I'm using Turnigy 9x 2.4 ghz . Servos are working fine with its BEC. :headscratch:

Just wanted to know is there any solution for this. ???

-Thanks,
-Vinayak.

After reading manual I found BEC need to connect at Pin 3 of receiver which is Throttle :giggle:.
I could hear a long beep now motor is also working fine.
But still I think I programmed it incorrectly  :headscratch: , .
Throttle has to move down to increase the speed of motor  :giggle: .
Is there any way to reset the ESC programming by TX and setup it again ?
Currently I'm managing it with setting Throttle to reverse @ TX

This is a FIRST time i'm connecting these all parts together so please  :help:

Is motor connected with ESC ? As the motor makes the sound from the signal of ESC.
Please check after connecting the motor. I have done this at start.

Follow strict instruction of ESC Manual.

Setup
Motor : RCFORALL Brushless 2805/1400KV
ESC   : RCFORALL DY 18 AMP ESC
Battery : RCFORALL 11.1V 1000 mah
Prop : 8060

The battery is spoilt it is now a 2cell, the 3rd cell is dead.
The battery is fully charged.

Problem
Using a 8060 prop, the motor is cut-off at 60% throttle
Using NO prop, the motor does not cutoff
Using a 4.5x4.1 prop, the motor doesnot cutoff and ran for 25minutes at full throttle

Inference
Too much load
Prop out of balance
Battery problem

Too much load - Doesnot make sense because the 8060 is appropriate for this motor.
Prop out of balance - balanced the prop, it didnot solve the problem.
Battery problem - i have no idea about this point.

Guess
I read it somewhere that if the battery are not balanced then there can be a time lag between two cells.Could that be the situation? but then why always at 60%? also The esc only recognizes the two good cells.

Vaibhav, I guess it is because you are running it on a '2-cell' LiPo instead of a '3-cell' one. The ESC cuts-off because the LiPo can't provide enough current (my guess). Try using a 3-cell LiPo and tell us the results...

Or maybe it's a programming issue. Have you tried resetting the throttle end-points?
The same thing happened with me too when I first got my rc stuff, but resetting throttle end-points solved the problem.

reprogramming didnt work.
My 'good' 3-cell is in the YF-22. I cant take that out untill i fly the YF22. but the 3S never had a problem.

Post by: Swapnil on July 18, 2011, 03:12:43 PM
Well, I guess it's an 'overload cut-off' then...

So what do i do? use a smaller prop?

Title: Re: NEED HELP..."ESC & MOTOR PROBLEM "
Post by: Swapnil on July 18, 2011, 03:26:52 PM
If you are building a light-weight plane, then yeah...
But for max thrust you'll need the suggested prop with a 3s LiPo.

Okay. so that means i will be buying a new battery. i think i'll go for
http://rchobbyaddict.com/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=115
This is the cheapest 1000mAh 3S 20C Lipo Pack i could find.

The HK SS series issue seems to be throttle range setting issue. Even though the SS series is supposed to be plug and play, it really does not funtion unless throttle is set.

No to do this, power up the rx+esc then move the throttle to max and switch on th tx. After the first beep bring throttle to 0. This usually works
