Hi all , I am new to RC world and have a few basic questions.

I am selecting some ESCs for quadcopter on hobbyking.

Q1) Whats the difference between the following ESCs (Except current capacity) :
1.http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__2164__TURNIGY_Plush_30amp_Speed_Controller.html
2.http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__17135__Turnigy_TY_P1_25Amp_HEXFET_Brushless_Speed_Controller.html
3.http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__9483__Mystery_30A_BEC_Brushless_Speed_Controller_Blue_Series_.html

Q2) Here are 2 same ESCs with diff branding (seems like it)
1.http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__9483__Mystery_30A_BEC_Brushless_Speed_Controller_Blue_Series_.html
2.http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__13429__HobbyKing_30A_BlueSeries_Brushless_Speed_Controller.html

When you go to link 1 (Mystery 30A ESC Blue Series) there is a text at bottom of description which says "
This ESC is also sold as: HobbyKing BlueSeries." The price diff is about $2. Why is this so ? I m confused.

Q3) About ESC programming.
Are all ESCs programmable or only select ones ? Is there any other method for programming ESCs except using programming cards?

Q4) Are most of the ESCs made up of similar components ? Whats the Difference between a "Branded" ESC and a "Cheap" ESC ?

Q5) About Reponse of ESCs to control signal.
Here's what I know about ESC control : ESC uses the same control pulses that is used by servos (PWM : 0.5ms to 2.5ms). Hence motor speed can be controlled by same signal.
1)So do ESCs respond to the full range that is used by Servos i.e from 0.5ms to 2.5ms?
2)Some cheap chinese servos dont respond well to signal and deviate from their actual position. So is this the same case with "Cheap" ESCs too ? Do ESCs require calibration like that for servos ?

Power.. do not waste your time.. 99.9% ESC are same in construction and principles.. so dont worry abot brands.. the only difference is the density of soldering and components.. still none of any ESC is capable of written wattage on it..  so, just add a 5 or 10 Amps as a safety margin, while you buy it.. just use it.. no worry..  Thumbs Up

@roopeshkrishna : Thanks for your advice Cheesy

Asking this question since I m from embedded world : Do most of the ESCs use Atmega MCUs ? And what is "programming an ESC" used to achive or simply for what reason its done? Fine-Tune ESCs ?

Also can I get links from where I can make myself acquainted with most terminologies in the RC world?

My next Query will be about BLDC motors which I'll post in appropriate section. Hope to get yours and others advice/help with that too Cheesy

HYDRO PLANER.....

Power.. here the MPC is used to streach pulses, to drive power devices, while keeping the mode of linear.. it also controls the low and high battery states, battery voltage, threshold, load, over load, motor threshold, start up modes, brake, battery select, motor timing, feedback, cut off, annd lots.. can reprogramme, if time and mood.. and all principle are same, as you can see various ESCs in my palm, costs from 600 to 1000+..

in my self research, found all are same, except some variations like layout, soldering , power MOSFETs, and none of any stuff is capable of loading in to its capacity as written and if we push it in to limit.. result will be sad..

do not think about the brand, but make sure maximum size and density of used wires, and the density of used power devices.. each and every ESCs are based one BEC, are based on low drop regulators like 78XX .. always try to use a high rated ESCs with your crafts.. try to add some extra heat sinks if possible, or cool it with water or liquid.. will handle more currents..

And yes most of the esc use atmega micro controllers

Programming an esc is actually "user configuration of esc" that's it. Its nothing to do with MCU programming
