I finished my build of the shikra from Rc forall. I purchased the model with motor version. During the build I purchased a used Esc and motor which came with the Axn floater. Since these are basically the same bird, I figured it would be a good match. For the maiden flight I used the Rcforall motor with the used Axn Esc, powered by a 2100 3cell battery. The maiden flight went well, apart from landing in a tree. Grin
For the second flight the setup was the same, I just added a 3Axis flight stabilizer(Orange brand, without receiver). The plane took off I applied WOT and started to climb and then I just lost propulsion. Controls worked and I was able to glide the plane back for landing. On inspection I found that the motor had come off its own mount and the wires were all twisted. I concluded that it was a motor fault and decided to use the Axn motor.
Third flight was almost a replay of the second flight. Setup was same except for motor change. Plane took off, WOT started to climb and then no power. This time there was no control either  Shocked
The plane just spun and dived to the ground, lucky there was some soft grass and the damage was minimal.
Now the questions. I have worked out that the ESC must be the culprit, but did the 3Axis gyro have some thing to do with that?
Was using a 3cell battery a mistake?
What would be a good setup for this bird using a 3cell battery?
Help would be appreciated.

Ashim.

3 cell btry is fine 1500 to 2200 mah will be fine.

It may be possible that you lost signals.

Which radio you are using ?

Im using the Turnigy 9XR with Frsky module and RX. Loosing signal should not cause motors burning. I think that bec in the ESC failed.

In you first post , your motor mount came off, so in that case Esc cannot be the culprit.
With you second motor you have not specified that it burned....
If it burned and you lost controls, then the esc might be the problem. As if the Esc fails then you loose control over Servos also.
Some times the Stock esc are not as good.

Yes your right, my mistake. The first motor heated up and burnt. I think this heating caused it to release from its mount.
The second motor also heated up and burnt but I also lost Rc control. I was thinking maybe the extra draw from the gyro could have been too much for the ESC.

Which prop you used ashimda ?

Yes you can rewind your motor , but you should know the correct gauge of wire to be used, exact winding, to achieve the same rpm as before and watt meter to know the amp drawn by your motor.

if you would have used a good ESC then auto cut would have worked ..... and prevented coils from burning.
I had the same problem motor came out loose but auto cut saved.

Could you suggest a good ESC and motor for the plane?
