Title: Understanding PropCalc
Post by: roysankar on April 29, 2016, 08:50:08 PM
Building my own BluBaby inspired build: HUL26 with 36" wing.

Test cut gave an empty weight of <200g without battery, motor/ESC, Landing Gear.

Fruitless search for a 20-30g Blue Wonder type motor has forced me to look at avail motors/props in my kit: DYS A2212/13/1000kv & DYS/A2208/14/1450kv.

Running numbers through propcalc got me the following results with a 1000 maH 3S battery & 12A ESC :
 A2212/1000kv : SlowFly 8x3.8 prop : 88W/lb , ~15 min run time.

 A2212/1000kv : SlowFly 9x5 prop : 146W/lb , ~12 min run time.

PropCalc tells me the 1400kv motor/3S setup wouldn't fly.

If I am reading these figures right, then a 8x3.8 prop would get a more leisurely trainer performance (Power-Weight:88W/Lb) while a 9x5 prop will get me a more aerobatic performer (Power-Weight: 146 W/Lb)?

Does this sound right?
