Title: New Balsa Gliders
Post by: VC on September 10, 2010, 05:24:41 PM
On offer are the previous 4 models and new additions of a Hawker Hunter and a MiG 21 catapult launched model. Details of the new models are as follows:

All measurements are approximate and may be off by 5 mm or so.

Hawker Hunter : Length 325 mm (Tip of Nose to Tip of Tail), Wingspan 300 mm, Balsa weight 24 grams. Price : Rs. 150/- + Courier

MiG 21 : Length 305 mm (Tip of Nose to Tip of Tail), Wingspan 300 mm, Balsa weight 22 grams. Price Rs.150/- + Courier

Old timers will be nostalgic and undoubtedly identify the antecedents of these two new models.

As shown in the picture, a tube of Quickfix, Sandpaper 100 grade, Silk ribbon will be included in every kit. Specifications of the Auster Rs.60/-, Boreas Rs.70/-, Eurus Rs.90/- and Zephyr Rs.120/- can be found here : http://www.rcindia.org/for-sale/balsa-wood-gliders/

All prices are exclusive of courier charges. Keeping in mind the valuable lessons learnt from the previous experience (though the Balsa Gliders reached more or less intact to all consignees), I propose to ship through First Flight Couriers. Each consignment will be securely packed in thermocole, bubble tape and stiff cardboard. Larger consignments will be shipped in cardboard boxes. IMPORTANT : Please check this link for a good idea of the costs involved in shipping your consignment. Each glider kit weighs around 150 grams once packed securely.

http://www.firstflight.net/n_dom_rate.asp

This sale will close on 15th Sept. and the consignment will leave Guwahati on or around 24th Sept.

I am offering a 10% discount to all buyers who book 4 or more Gliders at a time.

Here is what we will do:

Step 1. You choose the gliders that you want
Step 2. You confirm your order to me on the forum
Step 3. I pack a trial consignment and let you know the exact courier charges
Step 4. You remit the amount into my account
Step 5. I confirm your order to the supplier
Step 6. Once the kits reach me, I repack and send them to you and give you the Tracking No.
Step 7. You receive the kits and are happy and we do business again! :)

Hope this is acceptable to all and I also hope I've not left any scope left for any ambiguity. Please get in touch if you require any clarifications.

Regards,

VC

Shipping is at buyers risk.

Akky, sorry for the oversight. You can use any strip of cloth 1/2 inch wide or you can buy  silk ribbon from any stationery store. It is used to strengthen the wing joints. Let me see if I can do something for you................

Akky, I just checked the pictures that you posted of the Zephyr Glider on another thread. Sorry buddy, the construction is NOT correct. The wing should sit on TOP of the fuselage, you have joined them at the fuselage midsection. The balsa spar that was supplied with the kit is meant to be cut in half and pasted on both sides of the fuselage where the wing sits. This will give the wing base a greater surface area to adhere to and will form a solid bond. Let me see if I can post a diagram here.

I would advice all buyers not to go in for the Auster as I am personally not too happy with it being 'value for money'. For MAJRAJ's order, I am replacing the Auster with the Boreas at no extra cost.

All the best for the build Rajath!

Plasticene serves the same purpose as clay right? Nose weight? Or is it for something else?  :headscratch:

Title: Re: New Balsa Gliders
Post by: VC on October 04, 2010, 09:04:43 PM
Plasticene is for the nose weight only. You should be able to source that in Bangalore easily.

Title: Re: New Balsa Gliders
Post by: VC on October 04, 2010, 09:20:27 PM
Completed models with plasticene in place.

The first picture is of the Magpie. Awesome glide characteristics. Perhaps, the best flyer.

The second picture is of the Zephyr 2 which has an unusual empennage with a side mounted tail fin. The original Zephyr has a standard centre mounted vertical fin. Both fly equally well.

Will post a video soon.

Respected VC,

Would you please link the thread of your earlier post to sand and adjust of the glider parts and fixing with ribbon.

Is your students sand the wing  with sandpaper by hand support? I use Hard back support behind sandpaper to avoid oversanding. Diamond file sets works well. As, my Cam is not at present with me,  cannot post just right now the photographs.

Friends, I got two glider as gifts from VC and a lot thanks to VC.
But SAD, as he has not give his mailing address so that at least I can send greetings card to HIM.

Please PM me your mailing address Vikramaditya-Da.

Post by: VC on March 08, 2011, 10:30:59 AM
Let's not discuss gifts in public. Recently, I have received a a gift that will remain a treasured possession as long as I live. However, I can't disclose any details right now as I wouldn't want this person to be swamped by "Please Sir, I also want one" requests. It can become quite embarrassing. Kalyan, in future, please refer to me simply as VC. Epithets such as 'Respected' are best reserved for the stalwarts on this forum who really deserve it.

I can't seem to find the thread about sanding and finishing, please check with RajathV8. I think he was the one who had posted a detailed build log of one of the gliders that he bought from me.

You may sand using free hand techniques, but using a Sanding Block (I use Hard back support behind sandpaper to avoid over sanding) is a much better idea.

All the best!

VC sir regarding the nose weight ( i missed the last posts  :banghead: :banghead:) you can get a similar clay in the glass shop, the clay is used for windows , we call it " LAMBI" in marathi... its oily and doesnot dry but is effective as weight option as it is heavy compared to size....
