for sale is HORNBY TRAIN set from MECCANO.

found it while cleaning our ancestral house, not in perfect condition needs restoration,  not in box,

includes:
1> working engine
2> complete track set
3> coal cart
4> 2 passenger compartment ( one without roof)
5> clips

wow! that is ancient! i had one of those!! i sold it for 8k last year.... restore it.. it becomes a collectors item!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T TRY TO RESTORE IT.

Try to sell it Internationally in an 'as is' condition. I don't think it will fetch much in the condition that it is in, however, if you try to tinker with it or try to clean/paint it - it won't be worth anything at all.

The most that you can do is try to oil the machine and give the key a single turn to see if it works. If it works, you may be guaranteed a good price - no matter the cosmetic condition of the set.

This is (probably) a Pre War, Tin Plate, Hornby Clockwork 'O' Gauge set. If the engine works perfect, Rs.5500/- is a fair price for it. I say probably pre war, because the Chimney/Funnel stack is missing. Earlier steam locos had taller stacks, as time passed they became shorter and then non existent. Had the stack been present, the age of the set would have been easier to gauge. Draw Nilanjan's (Pline) attention to this.

Hello Modellers
i have inherited one of these from my uncle(who also is the head of the design team at our  Model railway manufacturing business).
Mine's in a worse state and must say these things are sort after items amongst the O scale brotherhood.
But note worthy is the fact even though powered by a clock work motor the locomotive, a simple 0-4-0 had a brake lever which could be engaged to stop the motor.
Marvelous piece of British Engineering!

yes. on further investigation it turned out that it has a break on the engine... also there is a lever on the track. rise the lever and it will engage the lever on the engine and get it to halt...
