Title: Free plans, over 100 designs, super light foamies
Post by: Airlight on January 16, 2013, 10:19:26 PM
Hi All

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Mark, and I have been working on a website for a while now, offering my own designs of Depron foamies intended for easy build and entry level (novice) RC enthusiasts. The designs are mostly aimed at waste efficiency and intended for the indoor flyer, so there are no replicas of 'known' aircraft (maybe some similarities). I would appreciate some feedback on the designs and how they are presented, also if anyone has any contribution on the way to add RC kit (micro), similar to the Plantraco kit that I have (micro & linear actuators). I am new to the RC scene, and would welcome positive feedback on the ideas given here. I'm currently working on the first RC version of the Learner aircraft, and will post the build document in the near future. All of the designs are available as PDF, and there are many more than are on the site, so please keep looking back. I hope you will find something you like.

The address is www.airlightrc.co.uk, please give me a visit and leave/email any feedback you may have.

Thanks

Mark

Welcome Mark
Great effort there, i am sure there are some good donors out there, few first impressions

1. Did you make all of'em and flown them or as anyone flown'em, why ask is 'A536 & A5PREDATOR' prima facie appears main wing is out of the CG, minor variation may be required, the former has too far aft wing and the later has very slender wing

2. Prototype needs to be flown

More suggestions to follow if you want it to, that is

Hi rcpilotacro

Thanks for your comments, this is the type of thing I'm looking for. I really need feedback on making the current designs more usable and makeable, so any thoughts you have on them I'll gladly take on board. I'm sure you understand from looking at the plans that small changes can have a large impact due to the restraints of keeping to the template.

I've only built 'chuckers' up to now, but I'm worknig on the RC build of the 'Learner' (the first design), to show how I would do it so that people can offer advice and guidance for improvements. I'll post this as soon as I can.

Thanks again for your reply.

Mark

what i see in almost all of ur planes is that the shocky is missing. the horizontal part on thee fuse.. without that and sufficient reinforcement. the fuse will wobble..!  :banghead:

check pics of other profile plan to understand more...!

Woefully Short of time, still will give it a shot on one of your more difficult designs and let you know, tell me which ones you want me to try out first

Hi Aerovishwa

Thanks for your reply, yes I know about the fuse stiffening, it's part of the ongoing design updates I'm asking for help with. I would consider using carbon strip, or just a coffee swizzle stick implanted somewhere to add longitudinal stiffness. Don't forget these were first intended to be ultra light micro foamies, but they can be scaled up.

Thanks for your offer rcpilotacro, I would love to see A5JET22 (this has lots of configurations, including canard) and/or maybe one of the Vtails? I need help on the vees, as I think they are critical with regards to the right angle and tail size?

FAO rcpilotacro: Or the A5BEECHYTWIN? I've built a chucker myself, but I'd be interested in how you thought the twin engines would work. The bit above the nose and below the tail is redundant, unless you can find a use for the scraps?

First off, that is a great site/effort. And then, welcome to our forum Mark. Pardon me, but I need to get back to your site and spend some time there now.

Whow,

Sirf Mai hi kanjushi nahi karta foam/coro ke liye, Aur bhi hai Aur mujhse bhi jyada.
Good site. But the weight to be added is required for CG of a good hand launch glider.

Welcome to our forum.

also, could you add a search function and annotate aeroplane's nomenclature on or above the image. presently there is a need to click on the pdf icon to know the name of the aeroplane

Or the A5BEECHYTWIN?

Could you add an image ?

Rcpilotacro, I haven't done the cad yet for the beechytwin, I'll do it asap, but with regards to the names, if you're using Internet explorer, turn on your Status bar at the bottom and it will show you filenames etc.

Hi All

I have uploaded several new designs to the site recently, please have a look and have a go if you can. Would love to get some feedback on the new format with labels etc. Inch scale is for non-metric users.

Fly and enjoy!

Hi all

Just put A5JET19 on the site. This has a v-tail configuration shown, but I wanted this to be a jet, and the option would be to simply raise the 'fins', cut them down and fix one rudder vertical. I hope this is clear, would be great to hear something back on this.

Fly and enjoy!

Hi All

I've recently uploaded a few updated pdfs and pictures, if you want to take a look at the newer format I'm using. There are about 10-12 various new designs coming soon, and plenty of build pics to update, so keep looking for new stuff!

Fly and enjoy!

Hi all

Just uploaded the first part of the build log for the A5LEARNER, plus some changes to the plans page format to remove the 'wordiness'. All build logs will be shown with the blue notepad and pen icon. This is the first plan, at the top so you can't miss it.

Still working on new designs, some cool stealth stuff in the pipeline.

Fly and enjoy!  :)

Hi All

Just uploaded the pdf to the site for a new vtail design. The first build of this was a great flyer, very stable and 'soary'. In the next few weeks, I'll be starting a 'first builds' page with photos of the ones I've done up to now, and hopefully some flight details. Keep looking, the site is changing a lot now, a new format is coming to make the plans easier to scan through. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to look, and to the few who have contacted me with feedback, this has been invaluable in forming the direction of the new look site.

Fly and enjoy!  :)

Hi All

Just uploaded a new plan to the site, A4JET3, this is moving into more complex builds using an A4 template for the foam. I've used a slightly different labelling system, basically line up the same letters to help with the build and orientation of the parts.

I think this one looks great, very sleek. I'm hoping that the license I used on the tailplane will pay off, you have to remember that these are a balance of form, proportions and function. I'm getting feedback now about the plans now, and there are several points to update, but the key one I think is the addition of the CG. I will try to include this where I can, but this is something I would work out on build normally, and I haven't had time to build every one of these yet, so please bear with me. I already have a long list of improvements, and I promise I'm working on them.

I hope you will like this one. Fly and enjoy!

Hi All

Getting back into the swing now. Just uploaded the pdf for this to the site, usual place (http://"http://airlightrc.co.uk/a5plans.html") and there have been a few since my last post. Sorry for the laziness, but I've been busy. As much as I would love to release the new site, it's still a bit unfinished looking, so I'll go with the old one for now. I hope you will like this, and check out the plans page for updates.

Fly and enjoy!

Hi RC

Thanks for the offer, I would love to see/hear what other people are making from these. I understand that putting one of these together is still a drain on people's time and resources, so I appreciate any feedback that you can give.

The new A4 designs are supposed to still be built from 2mm depron, but you may feel that this is a little flimsy, please let me know.

All the best

Mark

Hi All

Just posted A4ACROBAT1 on the site, wanted to get this out there, I think this may be one of the best yet. For those who have given me any feedback about the plans, thankyou, I'm trying to incorporate your ideas, this one specifically about the lack of fuse stiffening on some designs. Remember though, these are meant to be ideas that you can add your own spin on, not cut and dried ABC.

I hope you will like it.

Fly and enjoy!

An update: Just realised a better way of doing the wing/fuse fix, so the pdf is updated now

Hi All

Just completed a new plan, A4VTAIL1, it's on the site (http://airlightrc.co.uk/a5plans.html). Two configurations, vtail and fin. Look at the pic and line up the letters for part orientation etc. I hope you will like it, please send me a pic if you build it.

Fly and enjoy! :)

Hi All

Just posted a new plan, A4GLIDER1. The A4's are still supposed to be built from 2mm depron, but if you have any other thoughts please let me know.. It's intended to be ultralight, don't forget, so stick the stiffening only where needed. With this one, I'd suggest the 2 wing rods and a couple of carbon strips (or whatever), one under the fuse on the flat edge, and one buried just above the wing line.

Any pictures greatly appreciated.

Fly and enjoy!

Hi All

Just uploaded a new plan to the site (http://airlightrc.co.uk/a5plans.html). Line the letters up for orientation etc. The new site is coming, but slower than I wanted, as I've decided to reformat the plans to go on the new version. I hope you will like this one, remember this is still 2mm Depron, or similar, for a super light aircraft. There are a few options on the power plant - I'd like to try embedded props on this one, but you will have to choose your own position. I think 2 edfs fore of the elevators might work, and theres always the obvious up front prop option.

Fly and enjoy!

Tiny error, I managed to forget the nose piece on this, so I've just updated the pdf on the site. The 'ruddervator' pieces are a bit smaller, but I think they will be the correct size now.

Fly and enjoy!

Hi All

I just wanted to get this out there, so the pdf (http://airlightrc.co.uk/a5plans.html) isn't finished yet. This one is based on a 'real' design, the Super Falcon (http://richtop168.com/gh5/super-falcon-pusher-airplane-white-p-160.html), and I just wanted to try my hand at something you might sort of recognise. I'll post the updated pdf soon with labels etc. Please let me know if you like it, or any further improvements.

Fly and enjoy!

Just uploaded a new picture for this, it's about a third of the way down the page on the site (http://airlightrc.co.uk/a5plans.html). This one is a bit more involved build wise, although I think you can get the idea from this picture.

I hope you will like it. Fly and enjoy!

Why dont you build something bigger too ?

PS
is your foot off the gas and thumbs on the remote, as yet? or is the idea bug still troubling you ?

Hi Gusty

Still sweeping up some ideas that have been sat around for a while (got about 40 of these, so I may have to leave some alone). You're right about the sizes - I don't think people have the 'micro' bug that I've got (yet), so my newer ones are tending to be larger templates. I'm working on a 'Raptor' (F22)-like layout right now (still an A3 template), so I think I'll be building some bigger stuff soon.

Been looking around at the things people are putting out - there are some fantastic designs out there, so I may concentrate on using/learning from others for a bit. I love the Raptor, so I may build myself one. And the Mig29, and most of Steve Shumate's stuff..... time is precious though, and funds are not unlimited.

I'll keep putting stuff out as it gets finished (although I've come up with 3 new designs in the last week, so good luck with that one..) and then they're there if anyone likes them.

Hope this finds you well, happy flying!

Mark

HI THERE ...

Im new to this hobbie and wish to make sum models on ma own...

i hav seen your plans :hatsoff:....looks great {:)}....but to be frank, as a newbie ??? i just see them as lines n designs ???....coz i have never built a plane before.. 8-)....

i wished they hav sum kind of marking or color coding of which piece goes in which place of the model. :help:

if this is done....i gues it would help many newbies.... :)

welcome, your color coding idea is good, it is like Mac burger, just pick it up and shove it into your mouth, joy is when you bake the bread make the "Tikki" and put the "Bun Tikki" (That is all that Mac burger is, anyways) together yourself. all the best, do some reading while you are here (See for "Gems" on top, not the eating kind)

while you are at it, stop using SMS language, hang around you will learn more

Once again Welcome

Hi Madaquif

Thanks for your feed back, I'm continually trying to improve the designs and the way they are presented, and I'll consider your ideas about the colour coding, but bear in mind that I try to develope these as the simplest layout that I can create so that they don't hold a lot of confusing information. Also I'm not sure that I want to include colour - what if someone only has a black and white printer? May be a symbol is better.

Have you looked at the later designs, with the letter coding? Basically, if you cut out the design on paper then hold/tape the bits together with the same letters close to each other you should get the idea of how it goes together. Slots and cutouts should be obvious, so if they aren't please let me know. I try to stick to a very similar pattern of layout - wings (mostly) have slots, stiffeners have slots, and if you take a look at the generic build log for the Learner model (first plan, blue icon log file), you should get the idea of how these are constructed. I think another one is probably due, to show a later, more complicated design going together, but have you looked at all of the pictures in the albums? They should help with a lot of your queries, even if they don't show the exact design you are looking at, there may be something similar.

I'll try to develope something more obvious, but if you consider I've got around 150-200 plans to go through, it may take some time to cover all of them. Try the lettered layouts, because if you get these you may then understand the ones without this format.

I ask this every time but have yet to receive anything - if you do build one, please can I have a picture? Just to see how others are approaching the builds.

BTW, what is a 'bun tikki'?

Fly and enjoy!

I am a newbe here. :headscratch:

i saw some of the basic plans....like a type of glider...may be that one was old one , like i am soon gonna build

http://www.airlightrc.co.uk/A5LEARNER.gif

will post some pics soon ...:)

By color coding i ment just numbering/marking the parts on the plan....which i think is taken care in newer plans...:hatsoff:

If you have enough time to modify exsisting plans with numbering/lettering ....m sure it will help new Enthusiast with our hobby...

(BTW ).."bun-tikki" is sum kinda indian name for a indian burger...where bun stands for the bread and tikki stands for the patty of the burger.....lol :giggle:

Hi Madaquif

I have some more pictures somewhere of the point I'm up to with the Learner. I'm not sure if this is clear or not, but this was the very first design I did, trying to fit everything into the template size. It flies well, and for mine I added just a couple of coffee swizzlers from the Golden Arches (cut down) to keep the thin fuse rigid. I'll see if I can find them for you, though I thought I had already put them on the site, appears not. Mine is being rebuilt, though not quickly, and I'll let you see it later. If you are interested in indoor flight, why not try building this from 2mm depron but cut from an A4 size template (print the design on A3 if you can, scale 1.41). This will give you more options for stiffening, and a little more leg room for servos/actuators etc.

Thankyou for your offer of pictures, you will be the first.

Fly and enjoy!  :)

Thanks utkarshg13 & shobhit17, it's a long time since anyone has put anything on here, including me. The site has a lot of new designs now, and I'm working on keeping the build pictures up to date and a bit more intersting, with new colour schemes just to brighten them up a bit.

If you do get round to building something, you'll be the first, ever (or at least willing to show their hand), so claim your place on here with some build pictures. Thanks again for looking in.
