Title: POSTPONED - SMALL CASH PRIZE CONTEST
Post by: K K Iyer on February 18, 2019, 12:46:15 AM
edit: See new thread dt 3rd April

Edit:
POSTPONED, as requested, till after exam time

Hi everyone,
A few days back I made an offer to encourage entry level activity in our hobby.
I’m grateful to Saikat sir, who has offered to match my contribution.
So now there are 2 prizes for each category.
(Pl note changes from earlier proposal)

One prize in each category is for the FIRST member to post a video on RCI of a flight meeting the minimum stipulated goal.

The prizes, categories and goals are:
1. Rs 1000 for the first 10+ second flight by a hand launch chuck glider
2. Rs 2000 for the first 20+ second flight by a hand/catapult launched glider
3. Rs 3000 for the first 60+ second by a rubber power/hand/catapult launch free flight mode
4. Rs 4000 for the first 120+ second flight by an RC/FF glider (50m towline or 10m rubber histart)
5. Rs 5000 for the first 120+ second flight with solar power motor/controls (no onboard battery)

Note that these goals are LOW by international standards.

Thereafter, equal prize to the highest duration (in the category) flight video posted on RCI by the deadline.

The contest closes at midnight on 31.3.2019
Flights over 2 minutes, if not supported by continuous video, may need independent verification by two other members/ independent third parties

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Start you engines NOW!

Regards

Apart from me and Saikat sir funding the prizes, i have received from a member, an offer of a kit (details not yet known) to be awarded to ‘deserving participant’

More offers of gifts/presents welcome, preferably with more clarity...

It might be the wrong time. It's the exam season.

Sir,
I agree with Mehul.
I think the most eager participants are from the age group of 13-20 yrs(Including Me), but these moths of Feb-March are of a great stress for school students. They might not participate even if they want to.

So now, besides the prize for the early bird qualifiers, we’ll have a matching prize for for not just one, but two best duration flights thereafter!

Request those facing exams to tell me a suitable starting date.

"April"- agreed.
Although my Exam ends on 20th of March.
I think majority of (important)exams, they would end before March end.

My 12th Board Exams end on the 3rd Of April. I would gladly take part in the solar flight, provided the event is sufficiently postponed. :)

" Rs 4000 for the first 120+ second flight by an RC/FF glider (50m towline or 10m rubber histart)"

Hello sir can you please explain the 4th challenge
" Rs 4000 for the first 120+ second flight by an RC/FF glider (50m towline or 10m rubber histart)"

1. ‘Glider’ means no engine or motor
2. ‘RC/FF’ means radio controlled or free flight
3. ‘Towline’ is the 50 meter (max) string for carrying the glider aloft. One end held by the walking/running tow-er. The other end has a ring (like a key ring or paper clip) to engage with the tow hook on the glider. The towhook is an L shaped bit of wire, mounted at the bottom of the fuselage, slightly ahead of the CG. A handkerchief or ribbon 1-2’ ahead of the tow ring, to help the towline detach from the glider (and help in locating the towline later  ;D)
4. ‘Histart’ is a 10m length of 1/8, or 3/16, or 1/4” outer diameter surgical tubing, with 30-40 meters of towline attached. Pulled back 30-40 meters to launch (typical tension 4-6 times the weight of the model.
5. 120+ seconds means the flight duration from release of towline to landing.

I find it a bit strange to explain such stuff.
On the other hand, if someone who needs this explanation is interested in competing, it fulfills exactly the objective of this contest - ‘to encourage ‘

@Priyanshu,
1. You can PM me for any clarification you need
2. Not sure if you’ve built a model before. Pl tell us.
3. If you are new to the hobby, I suggest you try the easier challenges first.

Glad to have you on board. Best wishes.
Iyer.

More queries are welcome.
Especially from newcomers,
Doesn’t matter if they seem strange or odd.
