Why would you wan't to use it in the first place? It's much more expensive than Methyl Alcohol.

Its difficult to find Methyl Alcohol in Kerala, I think that’s why he is looking for alternative options.  :headscratch:

Exactly...
Sushil Anand Sir,
Isopropyl alcohol or medical sprit is easily available in a limited quantity and costs Rs.150/liter.

Why struggle so much, just get one of the smaller gas engines !   The RCGF 15cc works great, and the price is similar to the glow ones for the same class.

no i have not tested ip alcohol on rc engines, but they cannot be used. you can use pure ethanol which i have tested. finally i feel i will have to switch to electrics in kerala to fly.

how is it possible that you can't find methanol in Kerala ?
Visit any high school nearby and ask them from where they buy there chemicals?
Those shops keep Ranbaxy methanol in 2ltr pack and caster oil as well.
If I can find it in jaipur than u can also find it there.

Well friends.... buying alcohol for fuel for our engines is never difficult... be it any city..... All one needs to go to is a chemist shop.  The shop which provides chemicals to the Chemical labs of schools and colleges and even hospitals.... the Methyl alcohol is the most commonly used cleaning agent for all lab equipment and glassware.

This liquid may be blue in colour as additives are used to make it unusable for other purposes including differentiating it from Ethyl alcohol which people often use in TODDY...... thus helping save the problem of "zaharili sharab"

Use this blue alcohol (sold as alcohol based lab cleaning agent) and add your castor oil in 80:20 or 70:30 ratios to make your basic fuel..... if looking for nitro.... then make the basic fuel and add 2% to 5% or whatever ratio you wish to make..... generally avoid using more than 5% as higher nitro contents lead to high engine wear and tear.  Even going without nitro is an excellent idea and I have used fuel without nitro always other than when flying for a demonstration or some competition.

SO this is how you get your 2 litre or 5 litre pack of alcohol based cleaning agent to make your fuel.

I don't think IPA (IsoPropylAlcohol) is used as a whole in Nitro Engines.
It may be used in small proportions (2-5% assay grade) as it has a higher flammability limit than Methanol.
It has a calorific value much lower than Methanol.
IPA generally available, is a cut with a minimum 20-30% water (Used as a cleaning Solvent).
Assay grade IPA is hard to purchase (without a licence) and 3 times the cost of the same grade Methanol or Denatured alcohol.
