RC India - Flying and racing with open minds !

My brother picked up a 75cc plane which was left unused for couple of years by some one at only the price of the servos inside !  It is as if the frame and engine was free !

The only thing missing was the CDI ignition unit.  So he hacked the connections to use the RCGF CDI instead.

The "re break-in" was amazing, with tons of power. And the vibrations are also equally strong. Needs some dedicated securing of components before it goes up in the air.

There is a some engine missing/knocking in the mid range, which was not fixed by needles alone (so far).  My brother is planning to open up the carb (the make seems to be Tillutson), as there could be some dirt buildup from the engine remaining unused for a long long time.

The muffler is also huge, coming something like 20% inside the fuse (there is a cut in belly of the fuse to accommodate the same).

Looking forward to flying this soon  Drool

The engine mounting style is quiet interesting. It reduces the projection of engine and also allows to have the Cg corrected without adding much weight to the tail. Thumbs Up

RC India - Flying and racing with open minds !

A bit of test flight footage of this plane.

The landing at the end was a bit rough, as my brother misjudged the speed required for landing (although he did several touch and gos earlier).  This illustrates the major difference with high wingers, these acrobatic ones will "drop their wings" as soon as forward speed comes below some threshold.

wow your brother got lucky! The "big muffler" is a cannister muffler - really quietens the 'bark' of a big gas engine and if it is a "tuned" muffler adds some power. The regular box type muffler that you see is not a muffler at all since it has no baffles -it would be more appropriate to call it an "exhaust deflector"
Now lets see what this baby can do - post some video with aerobatics and 3d!   Btw I cant be sure but it seemed a little tail heavy (good for 3d) -sitting low on the tail and floating for long time - or maybe its just your brothers flying style.

yeah I saw that thread, and in fact tried my hand at building my own cannisters. posting some pics. I used old moterbike leg guard tubes for the header and puttu steamer (which I picked up in Kerela) for the can. As you can see there is no teflon coupler. Works well.

btw Anwar could you tell me more abt how its set up - servos, batts -also specs like WS and weight. Thanks.

Manoj your post suggests you also experimented with home made cannisters?

I am a Corogamist!

Yes... Puttu streamer is a great way to make mufflers for big engines. They are also perfect for making pulsejet engines. Kitchenware shops are one of the best place to look for homemade engine accessories.
