We have been using Tornado fuel on all our cars till date.We have had absolutely no issues yet. The best part if that the fuel supply is continous.

At one point in time there was 20% offroad and 30% offroad avail which had a higher oil content (i think 14%), but now they are sticking to regular car fuel.

At the current pricing i think tornado makes most sense. We also tried Byrons for a while, but for some reason the TRX 3.3 engines didnt like it too much plus there was no assurance of supply.

I saw a lot of people using the new rotor fuel, none had issues with it. But unless it costs half as much as tornado i personally wouldnt venture into it.

@ajo - what is the cost of the rotor fuel?

Its about Rs 450 a litre for 15%, But with larger quantities, I think you can get a better rate and also customize your fuel.

The price will definitely not be half the rate of imported fuel, because the lube used is Klotz which is far superior to any local castor oil. Search to see the price of Klotz.

Also the fuel is computer controlled mixed in a proper setting unlike previously made local fuel.

The packaging is also great. You must have seen the cans. The cans are great quality ones.

The cans are really nice. Easy to carry and very durable unlike the tornado metal ones, which tend to go out of shape. But again for local fuel even though it computer controlled and using Klotz Rs 450 per liter is too expensive. Once it reaches the Rs 300/- level then we can consider as an alternate for Tornado.

Like I said, larger quantities can reduce price to much lower levels. I cannot discuss the rates I receive. And also all the components are imported, Methanol from Shell, Chinese Nitro, anti frothing and anti rust agents.

BLR Jo and team was given a 3 litre sample to test. Will find out if Rotor got any feedback from them.

Hey Guys!

I'm reviving this thread cause I just got off the phone with Mr.Ethiraj who manufactures Power Glo fuel. He quoted Rs.300/litre for 20% Nitro and 15%Lube mix.

Is this a good alternative for Tornado 20%? I know cost wise it makes sense. But what about the quality?

Tassem.

I would say dont. Off late we are having some issues with local fuel. With a high cost/performance engine like Novarossi and Axe Rossi at stake, I am planning to shift back to Tornado.

Hmmm.. I don't want to risk ruining my engine. Plus the biggest difficulty is that he can't provide smaller quantities so that I can test it out. It's a gallon minimum.

What sort of issues were you facing with them?

Rotor's first few batches of fuel was made by this guy. We brought it because it was cheap. It sucked, overheating, gumming, strange smell etc. Then rotor started their own manufacturing with imported components which was by far the best locally made fuel I have used. Clean burning, nicely packed, cost effective. Murali beat Tornado users from across the country with just 15% nitro in the RCINC truggy race. Issue is that it has no castor, only synthetic which is not friendly to high performance engines.

Every commercially made fuel in the world, Tornado, Byron, RB, Odonell, TOP fuel has atleast some castor. Even the high performance race grade of 33% has castor. So I am doubtful of using it on my Novarossi.

That's enough for me to stay away from it for now. But I wouldn't write them off completely lest they improve on things in future. About the rotor fuel. It costs the same as tornado as far as I can see. Or am I wrong here?

The site shows INR1550 for 3 litres of 20% Nitro Fuel. That's INR516 per litre. Tornado retails for INR2100 for 4 litres. That's INR525 per litre. And when I factor in shipping for the rotor, it turns out more expensive than tornado which can be bought locally for me..

I sincerely hope I'm wrong about the costs here!

I guess it should be cheaper. They're selling Tornado After Run Oil for INR320. Its available in Model Art for INR250. And I've always felt that Model Art cost is on the steep side for most things..

Oh and I'd be using it for the 4.6cc stock savage mill and the 2.5cc t-maxx.. Fully synthetic should be ok I guess?

Hmmm.. no plans for a new engine yet. But if I change I'm thinkin of a picco .28.

I guess we can always add some castor to get a good blend. So many options!!

Castor may or may not blend in. Only a factory mixed fuel will have consistency. But you can always shake it and use, I think

I dont think any local person will be able to beat the effort, time and R&D put in by these companies and match their quality levels. I never used to care since I used only RTR engines. But the scene changes with expensive engines. I think there has been some increase in Rotor pricing.

To be honest I'd still be keen to go the rotor way as increased sales and exposure would bode well for us in future. And I think it ought to be superior for its Klotz content.. I guess I'll try one can and see how it goes from there..

Try mixing your own fuel with 20% Klotz and 20% nitro and it will work out more expensive. Rotor and Tornado fuels are expensive but not overpriced.
Compare the fuel prices at tower hobbies- even their home brand is as expensive.
