Ya!! After making BL motors one of the most cheapest part of the plane, HK is now working on Turbine Jet Engine (CJetCat ?) .... So is it time to say good bye to our EDF units ?

The smallest turbines I know off are in the 2 - 3 lbs thrust range. These are much, much larger than the EDFs in use. Also, the electronics are an additional cost which remains a virtual constant irrespective of size. Small turbines would be inefficient on both performance and cost.

So turbines replacing EDFs in most of the electrics is at least some way off.

It was a pun Sushil Sir! I was merely kidding. There are other riders of owning a Jet engine -more maintenance, higher running cost, extra tools etc.

Anwar, time would tell if they are merely cloning one of the proven engines or doing some fundamental research , which remote possibility considering enormous time and resource needed in designing a Jet engine from scratch.
However, there have been 'China Jet' selling for Sub $1000 mark, but they never won the confidence of the fliers to pose any threat to JetCat/Wren etc
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/JLT-600_Turbine_in_China,_around_US$640/m_2238990/tm.htm

So I would still look for the after market on RCG/RCU for used JetCat, in another 2-3 years, if time permits me to graduate from Gasser/Nitro to a Jet.

No plans for any Jet aircrafts for me... only want to get back into hardcore 3D heli flying.  But my brother seems to have "wandering" interests.  It was because of him that we tried RCGF gas engines sold by HK (only the first time, after that we dealt directly with the factory).  They have worked out to be reasonable.

Who knows what the future carries ! Jet engines is usually big money stuff, but if we get to put cheap HK jet engines on existing air frames, more people would try that.

The Sands in your area would already make Jet engine and even more messy idea.

But why did you guys went for RFCG gassers ? Their power is less than they claim - people use a 30cc RCGF in in place of 26cc. Selling a $180-200, it would be better that you take a $75 discount from Towers and get a 30cc DLE which would effectively cost $245 after discount !

Our proper field is full of jets, and we have one of the best tarmacs for RC anywhere, where even microlights can land !

We were after the smallest gassers, and the DLE range had not come out.  The ones we got for ourselves and friends are mostly 15cc ones.  My brother was not really into prop hanging, so power was not an issue as compared to fuel economy.

Wow, never knew the video got 5K views !
