Title: build log : YAK 54 profile
Post by: AEROVISHWA on July 07, 2011, 10:59:28 AM
starting the thread for my new build  a YAK 54 profile build

the difference in this plane is that it willl be built with PLY and no balsa.

it will be powered with a OS .70 fl(4stroke)

the cost of building is as low as  :Rs:500 + extras (wheels tanks etc)

here are some pics expert advice required: :salute:

What is thickness of ply you are using? Is it some spacial kind of ply?

its a ply locally available 2mm( they call it veneer) but its  a ply grade

costs  :Rs: 450 for 8ft*4ft. for one entire plane u need 2ft*4ft(for ribs and fuse sides) = around 110 for a plane

the spars are timber costs  :Rs: 3.5/ft (for 5mm*1inch) got it cut 5*5mm from a carpenter  :salute:

That seems very nice deal to build structure in less than 500 bucks.
From where did you get plan for yak?

the plan was downloaded form net and enlarged by a person in town. its his buizness he can print upto 80ft in length and 3ft in breath ( will give as much as u want )

bit costly fellow takes  :Rs: 12/sqft so my plan alone costed  :Rs: 180

thanks pankaj. its actually made from a plan got  it online( mentioned above)

every thing in the entire assembly is hand cut by me. no machine, no CnC, no laser cutting.
all cuts with fret saw. the holes with a 1.5" & 1" drill

pic 1 : the tail plane with the elevators(not joined yet)

pic 2 : the wing with alirons(not joined)

pic 3 : the fin and rudder ( not joined)

got the wing ready...!

the fuse was cut from 12mm ply( quite heavy)

weighted around 500g when cut the holed to get it down to 300g...!

found out the CG location = 10.52(with static margin 10%)

wing joined waiting for arildite to dry..!  :hatsoff:

a bit change of plan...!

the fuse will be made of biofoam instead of the orignal ply...!
reason: the ply was a bit of duffer quality and very heavy..

three sheets of 5mm biofoam stuck to make this fuse and will have doublers in the front section for engine mount... will post detailed pictures later..!

Nice progress Vish!  Your build exhibits that scratch building could be done with so less resources!!

What power system are you planning to put ? If it is any where near to glow engine, do put two silver pine 'Longerons' from the the tail till the engine mount and put the landing gear on lower longeron.

What about covering ? Sunfilm/Cellphene/Aluminium foil ?

All the best for the rest of the build.
