Title: Das Ugly Stik - in Corro
Post by: sanjayrai55 on October 04, 2018, 05:23:46 AM
Quote: "THE ORIGINAL CONCEPT of the Ugly Stik was to design a radio controlled aircraft which could be built in an absolute minimum of time. Its purpose was towards a flying test bed for new proportional control developments and an all-around shop airplane which could be used as a loaner for visiting flyers, testing repaired equipment, and any use which required an airplane which could he considered as expendable.

In the original form, the Ugly Stik was completely square. All surfaces were merely cut out of standard sizes of wood with no curves or frills whatsoever. The plans were finished on a Sunday afternoon some two years ago. A visit to our local hobby shop was made at approximately 4:30 to purchase the wood and other necessary materials. Taking time out for Sunday dinner, still the framework was completed by 10:00 o'clock that evening. Two more evenings were required for covering and doping, and on Thursday of that week, the ship was first flown.

The Das Ugly Stik has spawned dozens of sub-models. I've built the Spadstik, and recently the 30 size version in Corro. Thought it was time to build the original ;)

There are 2 versions going around, the original Phil Kraft, and the slightly modified and improved RCM/Jensen version. I selected the RCM version to build

I used an ASP 52 for the powerplant. Aileron Servos are 19 MG, Rudder & Elevator are standard size. I changed it from a Trike set-up to a tail-dragger

Excellent plane sir!
Is it suitable for me?
Perhaps in the 45-50 inch span range?
Regards

Thanks Prabal

I guess it's suitable for anyone who can fly a bit already

But do you have the hardware Engine etc.? And access toa field suitable for mid-size Nitro models?

Maybe you could look for a version that suits what you do have

There are so many:  21 in fact    https://aerofred.com/search.php?search_terms=all&search_keywords=das&submit=Search

Do remember though, the smaller versions tend to be "hotter!"

Surprised nobody noticed the difference in the model from what was posted earlier!

1. New or re-covered wing
2. Larger engine or more nitro
3. No tutor now  ;D

Correct on some

It's a new wing, the earlier one was blue

Engine is the same

The "tutor" crashed the model, hence the new wing  ;)
