Had my first crash in my 50 cc!! Not really a crash but a botched landing!!

Had 10 landings while practicing for the IIT show.. Was trying to harrier the plane down and then land it!

Had 9 good landings and finally on the 10th landing, the wheel got stuck and the plane skidded.. The landing by itself was perfect but since the wheel got bound, the plane skidded and the landing gear gave way..

Also broke a couple of spars on the belly and the prop was shattered!! Cowl and engine did not even feel the impact!!

Looking forward to repairing it and flying it today in IIT!

Congrats Chan.
Your gasser looks great. What battery did you use for the RX finally ? A123 ? and did you use 2 packs ( one as a backup ) ?
I have everything ready now. just need to start the assembly. Maybe in the next month or so.

Hi Guys,

Here I go shopping again!! Got tempted by Sanjeev's collection (RCDhamaka) and going in for another Yak 54 50cc (blue and white colour scheme).. It is an improved version and comes pre hinged and with the gas tank already mounted..  Looking at 2 evenings work on it... All setup to be stripped off my first Yak and redone here... Driving down to Bangalore tomorrow to pick it up Smiley Smiley!!

Hi Guys,

Picked up the Yak54 50cc from Sanjeev as mentioned in my previous post.  Link given below,

http://www.rcdhamaka.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3_64&products_id=219

Lotsa goodies and features.  Almost no work in the kit.

The first look inside the box was very very impressive.  I could notice a whole lot of improvements over the previous version that RCD stocked.  Some of them are,

1. Prehinged control surfaces
2. Gas tank plumbed and mounted
3. Rubber wheels
4. Carbon Fiber Tail assembly
5. Carbon Fiber reinforced wings
6. Carbon Fiber elevator tube
7. Extension tube from the tail inside the fuse for better aesthetics.
8. Fixed ring inside cowling (None of the cowl bolts are visible outside)
9. Scale canopy with decals for the instrumentation and black interiors

I started work on it yesterday and had a small roadblock with my servo horn.  The kit comes with beautiful and also heavy duty anodized aluminum servo arms.  This bolts on to the circular horn of the servo.  I had the heavy duty Hitec circular arms and hence had to do a slight bit of drilling on the aluminum arms to make them fit.

Looking forward to resuming work on Monday..

Good going Thumbs Up

Which engine, servos, special electronics (dual battery setup) etc ?

The exact setup as my previous plane.  Stripped everything off the old one and loading the new one.  Specs are,

1. DA 50 gasoline engine with stock muffler (will upgrade to a Zimmerman canister)
2. Hitec 7955 TG for all control surfaces
3. Hitec 5485 for throttle
4. Electrodynamics Heavy Duty extensions
5. Electrodynamics Heavy Duty Switches
6. Hyperion 2s 2100 mAh LiFePo batteries for Rx and Ignition (no regulators)
7. Powerbox Smoke Pump (would be installed if I require nose weight)
8. Futaba 8 channel High Speed Rx (6008HS if i am not mistaken)
9. XOAR 22x8 wooden prop (white and red)
10. Dave Brown 3.5" Aluminum spinner

I think tats about all!!

jets on the back burner ?

Yeah for now the jets are taking backseat!! Smiley Smiley Smiley

So the other one will lie bare ?  Or did it sustain any damage in flying ?
