All other inlets are closed except directly in front of the cylinder and there are side walls projecting inside ending just short of cylinder. This ensures that the air stream entering the cowl hits the cylinder and passes through the fin.
For exit apart from the mandatory opening for plug boot, muffler there are aftermarket louvers fitted on both side of the cowl and also an opening has been cut at the bottom and a dam built to create a low pressure area to suck out the hot air from cowl. In flying the arrangement has worked satisfactorily. But I need to add two more louvers on side top of the cowl. After the model has landed and engine shut down, there is no forced air entering the cowl and the engine temp rises. The heated air travels up and has no where to go.This makes the top of the cowl pretty warm to an extent that it is soft to the touch. I expect that once the side top louvers are in place this problem would be taken care of . Additionally the polished louvers would also look nice against the black background of the cowl. |
