Title: How to remove the connecting rod from the piston.
Post by: SORAV on February 28, 2012, 10:33:33 AM
Recently some body gave me his 15 years old OS max 35 nitro engine which was completely Seized from inside. As i was completely new to the nitro engine i didnt knew how to make it functional. Then some body suggested me to open up the backplate, plug and the carburetor and dipped the same in petrol thinking that every thing will come loose but it didnt helped then some body suggested to boil it in hot water but that again didnt helped then i saw some videos on you tube and got to know a degreaser by the name of crow and having the same in my mind i went in the market and got hold of the rustlick spray for Rs240/500ml.Its a spray can with a nozzle,on first application nothing seemed working on it and in frustration i left the whole engine dipped in the solution for about 3 hours and after that by giving a simple jerk using the pliers at the crank shaft it got loosened up and voila i had the completely seized piston out.but now the problem is that the connecting rod is connected to the piston using a small pin and i am unable to get it out using my fingers. So just want a suggestion on how to remove the same .

Lesson learnt never dip the nitro engine in petrol or water always use some degreasing solution and it would be a cake walk.

Today i will get my engine rebuilt with the gasket making solution as most of them have been worn out.Lets hope it will cut the air once again like a hot knife on butter.

Suggestions always welcomed.

Sorav..disassembling an engine, depends upon the nature, size and make of the engine.whatever may be the make, there must be some similar fundas to all IC engines.most of the case, boiling in hot soapy water will removes all stucky parts..we can also use any degreaser compound for this purpose.if boiled, we must clean it all immediatly with fresh water, after dismantle.can use 2t oil for temporary lubrication. need only a bit..check out for any circlips or hex pins or cross pins that holding the gudgeon pin inplace. if not, can remove the pin by hammering it with a mandrell, while holding the piston in palm, over a soft cloth..

Heating the connecting rod with a Lighter or better small butane torch can also loosen the pin. As Roopesh sir has suggest, you have to improvise on reaching the Pin with bent metal rod ( M2 'L' shape Allen key can also help)
