Wasi bhai is undoubtedly the best 3D Pilot in India..
And J-10 adds more to his beauty of flying..
We are lucky that we have fliers like him in India..

Practice, practice, practice………..put lot of hours & hovers on the SIM before you try with a real one, sure you will do it one fine day.

Put a few gyros like the RC Powers guy and the jet will hover by itself.  ;)

That is excellent . J 10 is one the most unstable jets and hovering a J 10 is not easy. You may have all 3 axis on Gyro it is not easy.  Amazing like to see it live !!!.

Yes it has gyros installed, but i dnt think gyro is used in hovering, as will make the plane more unstable, as gyro installed are for horizontal flight.
As i have seen in wingindia, the german flyers have defined diff set of conditions on their radio for takeoff, leveled flight, 3d etc. if they were using gyro then there must be less emphasis on programming the radio and rated for it..

And as per my personal experience with 3D, if you know hovering, then you dnt like gyros, they disturb you when you are in hovering..  ;) ;) ;)

That is confusing.  Gyros significantly help with hovering.  Whether you like the assistance they offer is a different issue (more like whether one likes automatic transmission cars or manual (stick-shift) transmission ones).  Gyros do not care if the plane is flying horizontal or shooting straight up into the sky, the gyro will assist to ensure that any movement in the plane in which the gyro is installed will be compensated for.

The simplest example is the Real Flight sim.   There is a Yak 54 model with gyros and another model of the same Yak 54 without gyros.  If you try to hover them, you will immediately spot the difference (and the sim is modeled after real life performance).  I have experienced the same in real life also.

Very true sir, gyro assist in hovering, i am not against it.. i mean to say if you are a 3D freak, then you wont like gyros, according to me.. people have their own preferences.

And also i meant to say if you have installed gyro for hovering, it will not assist you in horizontal flight and vice versa.. as the axis is to be defined, maybe there are more featured gyros, i dnt know abt them..  as i never used gyros in hovering...

Not at all, all this video shows is that you need to set the right gain on the gyro, and do not set it too high. Basically the gyro does not care which way the plane is going, it has no way to know !  All it tries is to keep it going "in the same plane/direction".  What the video seems to illustrate is that gyro gain is affected by speed, so you have to pick a gain that works for many speeds.

Absolutely, they are axis dependant, relative to the aircraft (not relative to the earth/ground) !  So the gyro has no clue whether the aircraft is flying horizontal or vertical. Once it gets in whatever orientation (usually when controls are applied, which overrides the gyro action), it tries to maintain orientation *in that axis*.   

So a plane with a gyro on the elevator, say starting in level flight, will try to maintain level flight. Once the pilot applies enough up elevator and the plane now points towards the sky, the gyro will not try to maintain that "nose pointed to the sky" position. And if the amount of throttle/thrust is right, you get automatic elevator control for hovering. So 3 gyros on all 3 controls, the plane will hover a lot easier, and fly level also easier (assuming you have setup the gyro orientations and gains correctly).

yup....i agree...gyros makes life easier for hovering but it needs to be setup correctly and needs high speed gyro...but here is the best part, majority of flyers, i guess almost about 90 % wont use gyro for hovering...y...?? and also, i havent seen a successful airplane 3d gyro out commercially....meant for competition class...J 10 has a fairly complicated gyro setup...and these germans are really smart with their setup...there is so much to learn from them...in J 10, gyros help only in high alfa flying...not in hovering...its a lot easier once this aircraft stands on its tail...it only drifts...but to make her stand is a bit difficult where gyro really helps...this guys uses gyro on two axis vector thrust and on elevons...

Gyros or not, you just HAVE to see Wasi fly the J 10, in reality! The video gives only a glimpse of his ability.
