Title: The evolution of the Flight Caddy Box
Post by: sanjayrai55 on June 10, 2017, 05:40:33 PM
In the late 80's I owned one engine, an OS Max 25 FSR. (Great Engine!) My flying horizon revolved around that - most of us guys then flew 25 size models, and electrics hadn't yet come on the scene.

I started off like most others, with 2 polythene shopping bags to hold all my stuff. Then, my wife went to Singapore with a friend, and I managed $ 400 and gave her a shopping list  >:D

I did get a power panel, and a starter. I used to use an old windshield wiper (from a Mercedes, no less) for fuelling

So I made my first flight box - which just had to have everything!

In 91, I left India, and was away till nigh 2009 except for a brief interlude of a year around 2004

Moved house too from Delhi to Gurgaon in 2003. The flight box kind of vanished around that time ;)

Then I restarted the hobby, and built this:

The Caddy was designed so that the model sat in the cradle. It was heavy, the cradle was 11" so that was the maximum wing chord. It also was not too safe, as it could fall with the model! It did give me good service, and was made with a separate starter box to carry to the flightline from the pits if needed

A week ago I decided it was time for another one  ;D

This time, an integrated system for table + caddy was in my mind

So:

The caddy fits on the table extension. Not the leg modification for stability

The starter fits into it's place, but during use, when you want it handy, but still clear of the table fits into slots cut

If your friend is near Delhi and wants a Caddy, I'm planning to dispose of the red & white one

He can probably arrange pickup but I think he's gonna want to build a caddy like your new one. :P
Let me ask him though and get back.
