So I was all excited few days back when I got my first heli kit - Hiller Beginner V2 450 Clone, Fibre glass frame. It was perfect for me for what I could afford and I started working on it as I want to learn from the bare basics. The first thing I did was dissamble the frame, wash them (it had traces of oil on it) and re assemble it. I am refering the Align Trex 450V2 build manual and now that I have completed the frame, I am left with two components which I cant figure out where they go !!!!!!!! I didnt add or remove anything, I just dissambled the frame, washed it, and assembled it. I cannot find description of the two parts that are "extra" now !

Could the experts check the pictures and let me know what goes where !!! I am embarassed now !!!!

I could find a place where it can fit, but there is no such part described in the Align manual !!!   



What is this Its looks like a hexagonal plastic tube with screw grooves on both end. where does this go !!!

that piece is a gyro / receiver mount... pls refer the align sport / v3 manual for this and this is not a hiller 450V2..

This model you have got is a hiller 450 BEGINNER  (as the heading of this thread says Hiller 450 V2 which is not right)
also pls refer to www.youtube.com/rcbazaar as we have done some videos on the HIller 450V2 but i thought it might help you a bit on the build...

pls remove the rough edges of the fiberglass frame with a sandpaper etc.

Hi Srivatsa... the frame is based on v3 (the tail belt drive unit) .. except it does not have the chinese weights on the tail rotors like the V3

I think it is a mount for the canopy.

that is the hex nut that goes inside the tail boom holder. I will not be seen outside

Yesterday was a good day. Met Heliboycochin and saw his HK450 which is a beautiful machine ! Learned few interesting facts and also tried my hands at the simulator. He even gave me some tips on building my Hiller450.

So far things are going good, except that I stripped the feathering shaft screw and trying to figure out how to remove it 

I have just placed the main rotor head just to see how it will look. I have not placed the assemble linkage rods as I was losing concentration    and distracted. So hopefully will find some time by evening and restart the rotor head assembly. RCBazaar videos are of a big help.

Disassembled again to sand the rough edges (thanks for the tip Sujju) and also insert the hex nut inside the tail boom holder.

Placed the rotor blades, flybar on the rotor head and just placed it on the frame. Wanted to see how it will look

ebinmoothedam, First heli builds can be frustruating! I know it, I have been there 

You need to remember few things. Take your own time. Dont rush through things! It will take a long time to build these. Today I met my heli guruji and he said he took more than a week to fine tune the tail assembly on a trex 250. Got the idea?

Read about it and MAINLY watch the video tutorials by FINLESS BOB on Helifreak.com. THese videos explain everything and is a MUST for all beginners.

Also regarding the featering shaft. you would need two 1.5 mm hex wrenches. ALso the screws come factory loctited and may be difficult to open. Usually chinese clones wont have grease in the thrust bearing and you are forced to open them and grease them. A little heat from a soldering iron helps free up the loctite (again too much can change the shape of dampener rubber inside). But since the model is plastic, applying heat to the feathering shaft screw may be tricky. I never built one. So RC bazaar may be able to answer that part.

I am not a fan of Finless bob videos and honestly, I believe its nothing more than just reading the Align build manual. There is no "build" in it. The best one according to me are those by "Jeff Fassbinder" and our own RcBazaar video. They actually show the "build" procedure.



Its plastic. Thats exactly whats stopping me from doing the "adventurous" part. And also, this is my first heli and i am "emotional" about it   As you suggested, the best way is to check with RcBazaar tech team.

Ebin you are bringing back memories of my first HK 450 V2 'rebuild'. That's another story. My virgin Hiller 450 kit is waiting for the day that I have enough time on my hands. I want to be as close as perfect when I build it. After all, my kit was a priceless gift from Sujju Bhai.

With your meticulous, idiot proof approach, I feel this thread should become a sticky for all times sake. Please pepper it with as much info. photos, information, videos as you can for all to follow.

That, in my humble opinion, would be your legacy to this forum. All the best Lad, let me know if I can help you in this compilation in any way.

I will definetly put more pictures and log my build experience with the Hiller 450 on this thread. Before writing this now, I had just installed the tail rotor, V-H stabilizers and the boom supports. But I encountered an issue with the main gear wheel + jesus bolt enough to frustrate me a lot and before I break something, I stopped it for today.

I will be re working on the main gear and then rebuild the tail rotor again. Will take pictures and add some description as it happens. I am sure this will help a lot of people in the forum. Atleast I am happy my countless hours of watching build videos and build logs are being put for good cause for the community.

As you said, for me both time and money is a constraint to make this build faster. So as both these factors smile on me, more build progress on my Hiller 450 

Will definitely hit up for any help, as you are the one who helped me with my SilverLit Space Pheonix.

Having a national holiday is awesome !!!!

Woke up early and finished assembling the tail rotor, fins, servo clamps, and boom holder. I have decided to go "easy and step wise" on the stripped feathering shaft bolt. So trying the "araldite" method right now. If that doesnt work, hacksaw method  >. If things work, I guess I will start a separate thread on "How to remove a stripped feathering shaft bolt" based on my experiences ?

Good Job so far Ebin !! It is a fact that the first build takes its time, however, you really must be patient, and yes, read as much material as possible on these similar builds (loads available on the net), including some nice and actually helpful videos on youtube.

Good thing I observed in the way you are taking this forward is that you take time off when you lose focus. This certainly helps gather thoughts better, and will save a lot of time and frustration later.

I wish you all the best and hope you cherish this build and the hobby for a very long time to come.

Thanks for the encouraging words. Yes you are right, I take breaks in between when I get frustrated with some parts. But its fun building somthing like this. I have paused my built for some time till I get the next set of parts and continue with my buld. I will definitely update this.

You are doing a damn good job Ebin ! I am learning. This will be the Bible for my Hiller build, especially since my HK 450 was royally messed up by someone else and it took me forever to 'unmess' it. Wish you had posted this earlier or that I had had more confidence then.

If you remember, I joined this forum two months back seeking help on my 3 channel toy helicopter and it was you who went beyond the expected by calling me and helping me fix the helicopter. You gave me a brief introduction to 6 channel RC helicopters and that ignited the quest in me for building helicopters. Over the period of two month, I have been researching and learning in depth about RC helicopters, the build logs, assembly manuals and I am sure it is helping me now. What makes me happy is that, many people find this knowledgeable and gains confidence and I am happy I could do something to the RC community.
