Title: HELP NEEDED FOR A BEGINNER IN HELICOPTERS
Post by: DixonDominicPalett on January 02, 2014, 08:38:52 AM
Hi all  :)

I am planning to start with helicopters now . I have no experience on any hobby grade or high performance helis other than a syma s106 non gyro version - which is definitely a toy and i have never been able to fly properly without gyro system ( the pot tuning was not at all comfortable ) :( . So , what would you suggest me to start with ? I'm not planning to spend much on these , so least expensive ones are better preferred . From many posts i inferred that i should not start with a 3d heli. But i was thinking of buying just one heli , which can be used to learn from basics and can go further advanced even though in a small size . I was thinking of the ones which can be used for upside down flight. Well if there is a possibility for me to do these within a very small budget , please guide me  :help: . And where do you get these in Kerala ? Which online sites can be trusted for a purchase to Kottayam or Kerala ? Anything else i should be cautious about ?

I know everyone would ask me to start with the simulator or trainer , but can someone explain the " how to get a trainer ?  " . Does it come with the helis RTF ? or should i buy it separate ? Should i be concerned about the trainer's number of channels or brand or any such details ? ( i don't want to be training on a 12 ch and learn to fly a 4 ch )

After a few searches i have found the following : Please review them

1. Skyartec-WASP-AUTO-CP-6CH-One-Key-Switchover-3D-Helicopter-RTF

2. Walkera Super CP 6CH 3D Helicopter With DEVO 7E Transmitter (Mode 2)

3. WALKERA Mini CP 6CH Flybarless 3-Axis-Gyro Telemetry Helicopter

4.  WLtoys V933 2.4GHz 6 Channel Remote Control RC Helicopter RTF

I'd love to know if there are safety options , like models with a switch with which i can turn off 3d maneuvers even though i make mistakes .

Also , are the above listed ones CCPM or FP ? I am extremely sorry  :bow: that i have asked too many questions in one single post , but i am sure there are good samaritans who'd help me out with these  {:)}

the helis that you have specified are really small and sensitive and not ideal for a beginner.  V933 is pretty responsive so it is suitable for experienced and so it is for others. If you want your heli carrier to be linear get a fixed pitch medium./large size heli. Not even a v911.

Well size as in view doesnt matter for me , since im not having a huge budget . Can you tell me whats the difference practically between a 6 axis gyro and a 3 axis gyro ?

IF you are BEGINNER than you must use Fix pitch Helis or Co-axial Helis which is very Easy to control.
You can use V911 or Turnigy FBL also.

You must learn and Know all things before use 3D HELI....otherwise it will be crash :banghead:...

Here is V911 Maybe you like it.

Most of these questions are already answered.

I would suggest that you read through the experiences of others who have started in helis, there are lots of such threads here.

Be sure about one thing.  Getting proper helis and doing it cheap does not go together.

You will have to order from other states, no such stores in Kerala :(

Dixon: It's obvious you liked the cp heli better than fix pitch but handling them without proper experience is like driving an expensive car without a knowledge of driving!
6 axis gyro with micro heli's is with genius cp at moment, others micro cp's have 3 axis but they are stable too!

3 best options for you!

It's best for you to get a ct6b tx or hkt6a tx for around Rs. 1900 with simulator cable and practice just for a month with aerofly which you can download and later you can directly start with cp heli's! It sounds boring but believe me, its a lot of fun using different virtual planes/heli's

or buy the new  turnigy 9xr best in cheap tx for $50 + $25 shipping with sim cable, practice for a month with same simulator and then you can use the same tx for any wltoys/blade heli's with respective module you like in future, that's the best part of 9xr!

if you don't want to go for above to option and want a better heli than v911 then get a v944/v955 (fp version of v922/v933 respectively) which comes with new tx which you can use with v922/v933 later.

V944 is mix of cp and fp which fly same as cp but won't flip so good for beginner. which would be best for training for cp heli and as its wl toys, the heli and it's parts a lot cheaper than walkera, hisky and skyartec!

p.s-v955 is much smaller than v944. you can fly it indoors as well as out outdoors but flight time is also small!

all the best! :)

I was in a similar situation when I first got my WLtoys V911 from a LHS for ^^ price. Never regret buying it currently own 5 x 175mah batteries and just love flying both. That said today I have two ( V911 pro) being the other and I have finally out grown and learnt to fly them pretty well reaching their limitations on high rates. I would like to know how the V977  http://www.banggood.com/WLtoys-V977-Power-Star-X1-6CH-2_4G-Brushless-Flybarless-RC-Helicopter-p-914247.html (http://www.banggood.com/WLtoys-V977-Power-Star-X1-6CH-2_4G-Brushless-Flybarless-RC-Helicopter-p-914247.html)
as my third mini heli and my first FBL CP. I have not flown 3D before but intend to :giggle: soon. I believe apart from a simulator this would be the cheapest most practical way to give it a shot please  :help:

Hi Dixon, try V913 from wltoys. It's a 4 ch fp large heli. Master it and move to 6 channels.
