Title: Hiller 450 V2 jumps during spool up
Post by: emilpaul on November 03, 2013, 01:48:20 PM
Hi all,

I am a beginner and facing issues with my hiller 450 v2. It jumps during spool up. This happens when the throttle is half way and the heli is supposed to lift from the ground.

I also found that just before the heli jumps the gyro turns blue and resets (mems HXT900 gyro).

My Gyro settings was around 50. When I reduced the gyro setting to 40 it jumped twice in the air. After increasing it to 58 it does not jump but it shakes in the yaw axis.

I am attaching my tx settings screenshot.

I am using th9x original firmware in the tx.

Can anyone help me with this issue?

Thanks
Emil

Hi,
it seems that you blade grips are too tight due to which you are facing a issue commonly known sticky collective. Make sure that your blade grips are not too tight and if possible they fall with their own weight.

Now for the gyro. Gyro should. Be in head lock mode so just reduce 2points at atime from the point when it starts to shake in the yaw axis.

These gyros reset if you move the rudder on a particular direction 3times so make sure you are not doing that while spooling up.

Hi Hellyflyer,

Thanks for replying.

The blade grips were actually very lose, I did tighten them and as you suggested it is not too tight. This seems to be working.

I have set the gyro to 44 and not seeing the sticky collective issue as of now. Thank you for educating me :)

I also found out why the heli was shaking in the yaw axis. My tail blade holders were lose due to a previous crash (i think) and I had not used thread locker on them. After tightening them properly with thread locker I am no longer seeing the issue.

Regarding the gyro resets, I was not moving the rudder at all, I was only throttling up. This still remains a mystery, so does entering the gyro setup  :headscratch:. I had used shannon's video as a guide during initial setup.

I have a similar gyro on my 500 with a issue of not countering any torque from the main rotor, it has a faulty mems controller. So I bought a turnigy 302 and it is holding strong, couple of flights so far.

if the issue of gyro resetting it self started after the crash then it can be a faulty gyro, as sometimes a ucrnfortunate crash can mess up a gyro.

Also go through the gyro manual carefully and go through some more videos online to know how to correctly setup the gyro.

Actually I am unable to enter into the setup mode and hence not able to reset the gyro.   :(

Quoting from the instruction manual
"The gyro is in the normal working status (lock tail mode LED) when the indicator is Red.
To enter the setting parameter power off the helicopter and set the sensitivity switch of the
transmitter to non-lock tail mode, then the LED indicator will turn green.
Hold full rudder about 5 seconds until the LED will turns to red, when the tail rudder returns
back to neutral position this indicates the gyroscope has entered the "set parameter mode" and you
can now set the servo type."

I did as instructed. Turned off the heli, switched the tx non-lock tail mode (non HH mode) in tx, turned on the heli, gyro turns green, hold full rudder for 5 sec. Nothing happend.

In the interest of documenting, I would like to revive this thread and post the solution.

Issues
1. Heli was jumping up during spool up and gyro was resetting.
Solution: Main blades main blades were lose and was reversed, tightened it up and reversed the blades.
2. Heli was shaking in the yaw axis.
Solution: Tail blades were lose, tightened it up.
3. Gyro not entering into the setup mode.
Solution: Reset the end-points for rudder.

Hope this might be useful to someone
