Hi All,

I changed from NiCd to Lipo/Life power setup on my Evo 50.

2 Battery Pack : Tahmazo Lipo 2600mah (35C) & Hyperion Life 3000mah(20C)

Regulator : Gryphon 2 Bus capable of supporting 2 batteries input. (I will be using any one at a time)

Setup : Running 4 servos (Throttle, Cyclic & Pitch) at 6.0 Volts
Gyro, Tail Servo (Futaba) & Receiver at 5.2 Volts

Difficulties Arised : Had to do some soldering for the connectors. Put on Deans Connector for the lipo and an adaptor for Life as I will be using Hyperion batteries in future.  Next the place to put on all the new things on my heli, the most difficult one was the 13 cms long life battery. Had to cut out some plastic on the front side of the original battery holder.

With all those things installed the Heli is perfectly balanced.

Please let me have your comments and suggestions if any.

Thanks

Arun

Looks good.

Wondering if you should add some cushioning to the switch fixed with tie-wraps to the landing gear.

Dear Sir,

Thanks for your valuable input.

I really missed out on that, will be adding some cushioning to the switch.

I will be flying with the new setup this Sunday and post the videos here.

Thanks once again.

Hi All,

I flew the heli today and was very happy to see that I just had to trim it right 2 click and up 2 click with the life 200 gm. battery.

No drifting at all, handsoff hovering.

But I found that when I increase the throttle above 50%, the heli starts wobbling and I am forced to land and lift again. ( I am flying with the training bar which makes the wobble worse and the engine is rich still breakin.)

What is causing the wobble ?

Is it the headspeed - Low or High

Should I increase/decrease the headspeed by the throttle curve or should I lean/richen the needle settings

Please help.

Thanks

If the wobble is from head to tail in a vertical axis, then you do not have enough head speed.  Bump up the throttle curve at the 50% position for sure, and you may have to adjust the 75% position too.  Do it gradually with small increments (like 3% to 5% at a time).

Thanks Anwar Ji.

Please take a look at the following video, my wobbling is very similar to the one in the video.

Is it because of the training gear ?

The video illustrates a different situation ("resonance amplification of training gear vibration").  But wobbling (or more precisely, "rocking") from head to tail is a completely different situation, which can happen every time your headspeed is not enough to keep the heli stable.

Anwar Ji,

Thanks for the quick reply.

BTW if you watch the video at 0:14 - 0:15, thats how my landing gear resonates(I think maybe this is the right term to use).

My situation is very same upto 0:15th sec frame, then I immediately bring it down.(As I have already watched this video a long time back and didn't want the same thing to happen with me.) I am sure if I hold it any longer then the same thing might happen, any how I had secured the tr gear with 4 rubber bands and 4 zip ties which I always do, this time around I had used very thin zip ties.

Why is this happening and how to correct it, Sir.

Thanks in anticipation of your kind feedback in this regard.

Best Regards

If it is the vibration of training skids resulting in resonance, then you have to secure them better to the heli.  I thought your case was different.

It is caused by improper securing of the training skids and/or the skid material itself being too flexible.

Thanks again for the quick feedback.

Yes you are right, the sceadu skids are flexible to some extent.

This is not the first time I am facing this problem, even in the past when I started with rich engine setting there was some vibration and it went away as i decreased the number of turns on the main needle from 1.5 turns to 1 turn.

Right now I have the main needle around 1.25 turns out (The back plate is very cool and the carb is spewing oil on to the heli frame).

Now I am able to hover in one place with the training gear and I am thinking of removing those gears. Please advice.

Thanks a lot for your kind help.

Warm Regards

The important thing is to communicate the symptoms accurately.  These are common scenarios, their MOST PROBABLE causes, and their solutions.

1.  A head to tail see-saw type of vertical axis rocking motion   =>  lack of headspeed   =>  bump up the throttle curve for those stick positions (I am sure Santhosh remembers this... we had to do it on two of his helis).

2.  A fairly fast horizontal vibration of the tail  =>  gyro gain too high  => reduce gyro gain.

3.  Training skid resonance  =>  training skids not fixed properly  =>  fix them again properly, worst case shorten their length a bit at a time.

Secondly, you have to do the backplate heat test often when you make changes to the main needle, to see if the engine is overheating.  Depending on the muffler, 1 turn on the main-needle may be the right setting on many helis.

At your level, you don't seem to need the training gears any more.  Plan where you are going to land, and do it slowly.

Dear Anwar Bhai,

Thanks a lot, that explained everything.

I will be flying the heli next time without the tr gear and post the video here.

Thanks Once again for your kind support.

Dear Anwar Ji,

Thanks for your help.

I have solved the vibration problem by increasing the 75% throttle position from 50 to 53. Slight increase and the vibration is gone.

Further I have leaned the main needle by 5 clicks on my os 50 hyper engine running 20% nitro fuel, still the backplate on the engine is cool.

Thanks

Hi Anwar Ji,

Last Sunday I hovered the heli 2 tanks without the training gear.

It was very stable and easier without those training gears.

Thanks

Great news !  Hope to see you doing circuits soon !  But build confidence on the sim first, including nose-in hover and recovery from that (by applying rudder), before attempting circuits.

Dear Anwarji,
Thanks very much for the valuable advice. I am following your advice and progressing good. I am very comfortable nose-in on the sim. I am practising daily for half an hour on sim. I get to fly the real thing only on sundays.
Thanks very much once again for your kind support.
